US weather forecast

As informed by National Weather Service, on Thursday, July 9, the temperature in New York may reach 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius) Thursday and will remain in the high 80s through the weekend. Heat advisories are in place in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, and reach into western and northern New York and central New England.

According to Matt Rogers, the president of the Commodity Weather Group LLC in Bethesda, Maryland, “This heat is different. It’s spread over a large geographic area all the way from Southern California to New England”.

There is no expectation of much relief after the sun goes down. It is reported that daytime temperatures in the 90s will be followed by overnight lows lingering in the 70s. Solar noon is at 1:47 pm – not at 12 noon – the strongest rays of the sun come between 1 pm and 2:30 pm.

The latest study indicated that since the mid-20th century, South America has seen unprecedented widespread and intense droughts, as well as unusually wet periods and the increased volatility, could be explained by climate change and atmospheric pollution, reported the Zme Science.

“Increasingly extreme hydroclimate events are consistent with the effects of human activities, but the atlas alone does not provide evidence of how much of the observed changes are due to natural climate variability versus human-induced warming,” said lead author Mariano Morales in a statement. The new long-term record “highlights the acute vulnerability of South America to extreme climate events,” he added.

The hot scorching weather leads to the high demand for electricity to stay cool. The entire U.S. grid will be put under pressure by the hot weather, particularly the PJM Interconnection LLC system stretching across 13 states in the Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic. Population-weighted cooling degree days, a measure of weather’s impact on energy demand may break the current record of 415 set in 2011, said Rogers. The heat also stresses developing corn and soybean plants. ”It’s definitely going to have some impacts on corn and beans, especially corn,” revealed Don Keeney, a meteorologist with Maxar in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Canada weather forecast

After weeks of excessive temperatures and almost no rainfall, weather forecasts don’t offer much relief in the coming days.

As reported by the Environment Canada meteorologist David Phillips the temperatures in Niagara have consistently been above average for the past 13 days, with very little precipitation, and although the forecast calls for showers this weekend they likely won’t provide the rainfall farmers need — or do much to reduce the heat.

“We have already had in the Niagara area about 13 days where the temperature has been above 30 C ... And we’re not even into the dog days of summer yet,” said David Phillips. It is estimated that the normal high temperatures in early July in Canada are about 27 C. “Last summer, we probably only had four or five of those days,” Phillips added.

Even overnight temperatures have remained in the high 20s which possibly results in more of a health issue. “Morning, noon and night we can’t escape the scorching heat,” he said.
