Covid-19: Record number of new cases reported on February 10

The past 24 hours saw Vietnam detect 26,032 new coronavirus cases in 61 cities and provinces across the country, the highest caseload recorded in a single day, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH). Official data from the MoH also show nearly 10,000 more patients recovered from the disease and an additional 74 people infected with the virus died during the day.

Of the newly detected infections, as many as 8,264 were diagnosed in the community, nine people tested positive upon returning from overseas, and the remainder were documented in the lockdown or quarantine areas.

Hanoi capital in the north continued to top localities in infection numbers, registering 2,887 new cases. Other northern localities that saw their daily count surpass the 1,000 case mark, include Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh, Bac Ninh and Hoa Binh. Except for Nghe An province in the central region which registered 1,748 cases, other localities in the central and southern regions recorded dozens to hundreds of new cases each.

Thai Binh leads in Covid-19 vaccine shots administered during Tet

The northern province of Thai Binh leads the country in the number of Covid-19 vaccine shots administered during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday from January 29 to February 6. A total of 125,319 doses, including the first, second, booster, and additional shots, were given to people aged 12 and above in Thai Binh during the nine-day holiday.

Thai Binh has so far administered over 2.7 million Covid-19 vaccine shots on people aged 18 and above and more than 295,000 to those aged 12 – 17. Some 99.16 percent of its population aged 18 and over, or 1.2 million people, are now double vaccinated while the percentage of those aged 12 – 17 is 97.24 percent. About 224,000 people have received additional doses and some 240,000 others got boosters.

The province is leaving no stones unturned to slow the Covid-19 spread as it has reported a spike in the number of cases over the last several days following Tet. It detected a record high of 450 cases, including 221 community infections, on February 9.

Covid-19 support packages benefit over 5.57 million people in Hanoi

Since the beginning of July 2021, Hanoi has provided assistance using Covid-19 support packages for over 5.57 million people, with the total amount topping 7 trillion VND (308.5 million USD).

Of the total, over 2.46 trillion VND was sourced from budgets supporting employers and employees affected by the pandemic, 4.09 trillion VND came from the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and 438 billion VND from socialized sources.

Among the beneficiaries, there are over 608,000 freelancers receiving 1.5 million VND each, with a combined amount of over 900 billion VND. The implementation of support packages has helped people, laborers, and employers overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives, and revitalize the labor market.

Quang Ninh: all-level students to come back to school from Feb.14

Students from kindergarten to high school levels in the northern province of Quang Ninh will return to school on February 14, according to the Director of the provincial Department of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Thuy. Local schools are working hard on cleaning to make facilities and equipment ready to welcome students back.

They have been requested to devise plans to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as prepare all necessary items such as masks, hand sanitizer, and thermometers in order to ensure safety for students when they come back.

Effective online teaching options for students who are F0, F1 cases have been also prepared, Thuy said. Local education establishments have encouraged students' parents to conduct quick tests for their children at least twice a week, and strictly follow Covid-19 prevention and control measures in order to contain the spread of the pandemic.

As of 6 pm on February 10, Vietnam has detected 2,430,683 Covid-19 cases since the start of the outbreak, ranking 34th out of 225 countries and territories worldwide. Of the infected patients, 2,206,594 have been discharged from the hospital after making a full recovery from the disease, and 38,688 patients have died of the virus.

The number of Omicron infections remains unchanged at 192 in 16 localities, including 92 cases confirmed in Ho Chi Minh City, 27 in Quang Nam, 20 in Quang Ninh, 14 in Hanoi, and 11 in Khanh Hoa.

More than 184 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide, with over 74 million people getting their second shot and more than 30 million people receiving their additional shot/booster jab.
