289 new cases over the last 24 hours
Vietnam posted 89 new Covid-19 infections cases, including one imported case, from 6 am to 12 pm on June 12, according to the Ministry of Health. Among the new infections, 81 were detected in quarantine or blocked sites. Among the domestic cases, 55 were found in Bac Giang, 20 in Ho Chi Minh City, 10 in Bac Ninh, and three in Hanoi.
The national tally of Covid-19 rose to 10,241 with 104 new cases detected from 12 pm to 6 pm on June 12, of which one is imported and 103 are local infections. Among the locally transmitted cases, 44 are in Ho Chi Minh City, 41 in Bac Giang, 16 in Bac Ninh, and two in Ha Tinh.
Vietnam logged 96 new Covid-19 cases, including 95 local infections, from 6 pm on June 12 to 6 am on June 13, among which, 34 in Bac Ninh, 32 in Bac Giang, 25 in Ho Chi Minh City, two in Lang Son, one in Hanoi and one in Phu Tho. Of them, 73 were detected in quarantine or blocked areas.

Vietnam researches production of single-dose Covid-19 vaccine
The Health Ministry on Saturday stated a Vietnamese enterprise is in talks with a U.S. manufacturer regarding technology transfer to produce a one-dose Covid-19 vaccine with high protection.
The ministry said the Vietnamese company has been negotiating with the U.S. manufacturer about the conditions for the mRNA vaccine technology transfer. The mRNA vaccine has finished its first and second phase clinical trials and requires only a single injection of 5 milligrams with high protection, stored at temperatures of 2-8 degrees Celsius.
The factory invested by this Vietnamese company in line with the manufacturer's technology standards will have a capacity of 100-200 million doses per year and is expected to start production from the fourth quarter this year or early 2022.
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), new mRNA vaccines can protect against infectious diseases. This kind of vaccine is proved to have an efficacy of 94.8 percent against Covid-19. The ministry said Vietnamese pharmaceutical firm Vaccine and Biological Production Company No. 1 (Vabiotech) is also in talks with a Japanese partner to soon receive the transfer of vaccine production tech.

Ho Chi Minh City vows to speed up COVID vaccination
Ho Chi Minh City will speed up Covid-19 vaccination, Nguyen Thanh Phong, chairman of its People’s Committee, told an online meeting on June 11. A team led by People’s Committee vice chairman Duong Anh Duc and health experts will be set up to carry out procedures related to negotiations for vaccine supplies, consultations, and organization of inoculations, he said.
The city aims to vaccinate two-thirds of its population this year, has a roadmap with a priority list of people because of limited supply yet, but would also ensure a sufficient number of people get vaccinated, he said.
District 12 authorities sought permission from the People’s Committee to continue district-wide social distancing under the Government’s Directive No. 15 after 15 days of social distancing under the more stringent Directive No. 16 in its Thanh Loc ưard. Le Truong Hai Hieu, its chairman, said Thanh Loc has not recorded more new Covid-19 cases since social distancing began.
Tan Thoi Nhat ward has the largest number of Covid-19 cases in the district, 51, he said. The district has set up a quarantine with 100 beds at the Tran Phu Secondary School. Nguyen Tri Dung, chairman of the Go Vap People’s Committee, said the district has had 106 Covid patients, including five whose status would be announced by the Ministry of Health.
The new figure raised the national tally to 10,337, including 8,704 local infections and 1,633 imported ones. The number of cases since the fourth wave of the pandemic began on April 27 was 7,134. Twenty-one provinces have gone through 14 days without detecting new cases. As many as 3,827 patients have been given the all-clear so far, while the death toll was 58. Among active patients under treatment at hospitals, 433 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 112 twice and 73 thrice. On June 12, additional 7,240 people in 16 provinces and cities were vaccinated against Covid-19. As many as 1.45 million vaccine doses have been injected to date.
