Daily Covid caseload hits 7,930

The nation recorded a further 7,930 Covid-19 infections, including 12 imported cases, across 59 cities and provinces nationwide on November 11, a fall of 911 cases compared to the previous day.

Of the day's tally, nearly 4,000 cases were detected within the community. Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest number of infections with 1,414, followed by the neighboring province of Dong Nai with 848, and Binh Duong with 627.

Elsewhere, Hanoi registered 80 new cases, with the majority of them being found among the community. This comes after the capital was recently warned of the high risk of Covid-19 outbreaks amid a growing number of locally transmitted cases. Of the day's tally, nearly 4,000 cases were detected within the community.

A total of 1,254 recoveries were reported on November 10. 79 deaths were confirmed over the past 24 hours.

Nearly 9,300 tour guides affected by the pandemic get support

By the end of October this year, 9,294 tour guides nationwide have received cash support with a total value of nearly 34.5 million VND (US$1.5 million) to help them overcome difficulties brought by the pandemic, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Under the Prime Minister’s Decision No.23/2021/QD-TTg dated July 7, 2021, tour guides are among groups affected by the pandemic and are entitled to a benefit of VND 3.71 million (US$163) each. To access the financial support, they are required to show their valid tour guide cards granted prior to May 1, and a valid labor contract with travel firms. The travel industry is among industries affected by the pandemic as countries had to close borders and impose travel restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has approved a pilot plan to welcome international visitors as proposed earlier by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. Five pilot destinations to receive foreign tourists include Phu Quoc city in Kien Giang province, Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Quang Ninh provinces, and the central city of Da Nang. International tourists with vaccine passports or those who have made a full recovery from Covid-19 can visit these five destinations in Vietnam starting from this month, without a quarantine mandate.

Ministry approves Indian Covaxin vaccine

The Ministry of Health on November 10 granted conditional approval of Covaxin vaccine produced by India's Bharat Biotech International Limited. The vaccine is formulated from an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 antigen and is presented in single-dose vials and multidose vials of 5, 10, and 20 doses. The ministry also gave detailed conditions going along with the approval of the vaccine for emergency use in Covid-19 prevention and control.

Earlier, the World Health Organisation (WHO) issued an emergency use listing (EUL) for Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech, adding to a growing portfolio of vaccines validated by WHO for the prevention of Covid-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2.

WHO’s EUL procedure assesses the quality, safety, and efficacy of vaccines and is a prerequisite for COVAX vaccine supply. It also allows countries to expedite their own regulatory approval to import and administer vaccines.

Hanoi children eligible for Covid-19 vaccination

519,547 children aged 12-16 and 272,374 aged 16-17 in Hanoi are eligible for getting anti-Covid-19 vaccinations in a campaign expected to begin in 2021 or early 2022. According to a plan for vaccinating children aged 12-17 against Covid-19 issued by the Hanoi Department of Health, 17-year-olds would be prioritized and other age groups would follow in descending order.

The vaccination of about 791,921 children in Hanoi is expected to begin either during the fourth quarter of 2021 or the first quarter of 2022. The goal is to vaccinate over 95 percent of children in the age range with two vaccine doses. Hanoi has said it would deploy mobile vaccination stations in schools, in addition to administering the vaccines at medical centers.

Children with congenital or chronic conditions with the heart, lungs, and other systems, as also other health conditions like allergies would be vaccinated in hospitals.
