Vietnam, Cuba's Trade Unions Share Experiences, Expertise

At the meeting, Nguyen Dinh Khang, president of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, appreciated the significance of the visit of the delegation of the Central Union of Cuban Workers (CTC) led by its Secretary General Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, who is also Vice President of the World Federation of Trade Unions.
It is significant in further strengthening the traditional friendship and special solidarity between the two countries, and the trade unions of Vietnam and Cuba particularly.
According to Nguyen Dinh Khang, Vietnam Trade Union currently has more than 11 million members and 123,000 grassroots unions. In the period 2018-2023, trade unions at all levels admitted about 4.4 million new members.
2023 is considered by the Vietnam Trade Union as an important time. "Vietnamese trade unions at all levels are focusing on completing the goals and tasks of the Resolution of the 12th Vietnam Trade Union Congress. At the end of 2023, the Vietnam Trade Union will hold the 13rd Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union for the term of 2023-2028," Nguyen Dinh Khang said.

The Vietnamese trade union is also effectively implementing solutions to support workers to overcome difficulties in employment and income, due to the disruption of the production chain as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In relations with Cuban trade union partners, Nguyen Dinh Khang appreciated traditional and effective cooperation. the Vietnam Trade Union is always willing to share experiences in developing trade union organizations, business transformation, building progressive and harmonious labor relations, and creating conditions for private enterprises to participate in the economy.
The representative of the Vietnam Trade Union also sympathized with the difficulties of Cuban workers in the context of the economic embargo, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and natural disasters.
Also at the meeting, Ulisses Guilarte de Nacimiento said that the Central Union of Cuban Workers is a Cuban workers' organization established in 1939. CTC always raises the flag to fight for workers in Cuba and around the world.
However, Cuba is facing many difficulties because of limited access to international financial resources as well as production materials due to the embargo policy.

Ulisses Guilarte de Nacimiento said the Cuban government has two priorities in its transition. They are increasing production and utilizing agricultural area, and industrial capacity to increase productivity, and transforming state-owned enterprises to further enhance operational efficiency.
With the desire to have better results in operations, the Central Union of Cuban Workers (CTC) hopes to promote further cooperation with the Vietnam Trade Union in referencing theoretical and practical experience in minimum wage negotiation, collective bargaining, female labor policy, and building harmonious labor relations.
On this occasion, Ulisses Guilarte de Nacimiento also thanked the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for their effective and practical help to CTC in recent years.
