To support the unfortunate, needy, and unlucky lives this Christmas, Vietnam - Czech Shelter Charity has visited and presented gifts for orphanages and social protection centers in Prague, Tabor, and Karlovy Vary (Czech) in days close to Christmas.

The group mobilized donations and sent representatives to visit the Sunicka Center for the disabled, nursing homes, and orphans in Chodov and KRČ orphanage center in Prague 4 district, where many Vietnamese settle. The association has given hundreds of gifts to the elderly, disabled people, and orphans.

The gifts include warm clothes, woolen hats, scarves, gloves, socks and food, sweets, essential items, and specialized equipment for the centers' staff.

Despite the cold weather, the representatives of Vietnam - Czech Shelter Charity crossed a road of 150km to the Marianská Center for the elderly disabled in the Karlovy Vary region in the west of Prague.

In the intimate and warm atmosphere, the delegates directly handed over meaningful and essential gifts to celebrate Christmas, New Year, and Tet. Representatives of the local Vietnam veterans associations and second-generation youngsters also joined the charity group.

Even though most of the group members were affected by the pandemic, from income cut to difficulties in business, they managed to best prepare for the charity trips. They carefully chose, packaged and delivered every gift with the motto of "how you give the gift matters more than what the gift is." The gifts aimed to strengthen the bond of the Vietnamese community in Czech, especially during a difficult time.

Nguyen Thi Xuyen, former head interpreter of many Vietnamese working groups, managed to join the trip despite her bad health and high age. The trips eased her homesickness and boosted her hope for a better future, said Xuyen.

In an interview with a VNA reporter, Pavel Novák, Director of the Marianská Center for People with Disabilities, said that the center was excited to welcome the Vietnam - Czech Shelter Charity group every Christmas.

The center appreciates the group's effort to ease the physical and mental pain of the less advantaged people. They are grateful for the affection of the group in particular and the Vietnamese community in general.

Pavel Novák said the Vietnamese community had given much support for the Czech people in difficult times. The two peoples saw each other as good friends and compatriots, he said.
