During the meeting, Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh, Vice President of the Union, provided a report on key activities in 2024 and outlined plans for 2025. These plans focus on strengthening connections, supporting community integration, and affirming the status of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic.

The Union expressed its hope that domestic agencies would continue to recognize and reward overseas Vietnamese individuals and associations, particularly local chapters. They also suggested updates regarding the organization of the first-ever National Great Unity Festival for overseas Vietnamese, which will be held in Prague, Czech Republic.

During the reception, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang commended the achievements of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, recognizing it as one of the most exemplary communities known for its unity and mutual support, and its strong connection to the homeland over the years. She also acknowledged the community’s growing influence in their host country.

The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the Union’s consistent and vibrant activities over the past 25 years. She highlighted its strong and practical association movements, which have set a model for other Vietnamese communities worldwide, making significant contributions to the development and protection of the homeland.

The Union serves as a hub for fostering unity, supporting community members, and actively promoting the preservation and development of Vietnamese cultural and linguistic values. This dual role allows the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic to thrive while maintaining close ties with their homeland.

The Deputy Minister praised the Union’s leadership, acknowledging their dedication and ability to inspire the younger generation. She also recognized the importance of involving young leaders in the new term to ensure continuity and innovation in the Union’s activities.

She expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic for upholding the spirit of solidarity, leading numerous charitable initiatives, and supporting those in need both in Vietnam and abroad. Most recently, they contributed to relief efforts following Typhoon Yagi, assisted victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, and participated in the movement to eradicate temporary and dilapidated housing. Their contributions reflect the deep-rooted tradition of unity and compassion within the Vietnamese people.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister called on overseas Vietnamese, particularly the newly elected leaders of the Union, to continue guiding the association and the broader Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic.

She emphasized their crucial role of support for implementing the policies and initiatives of the Vietnamese Party and Government. These efforts include fostering community connections, preserving Vietnamese cultural identity and language, and working collectively for the country’s progress. She also encouraged them to serve as a bridge for strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.

The Deputy Minister also provided updates on major activities planned by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and the Vietnamese Government in 2025. These include events marking significant national milestones such as the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30).

She acknowledged the recommendations and proposals from the Vietnamese community and affirmed that the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs would actively coordinate with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to ensure the successful organization of the upcoming National Great Unity Festival in Prague.

She affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Committee remain committed to providing continuous support, introducing new initiatives, and improving services to better meet the needs and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese.

The Union of Vietnamese Associations in the Czech Republic was founded in 1999, initially named the Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic. In December 2024, the Union held its 7th Congress and elected a new Executive Committee for the 2024-2029 term, comprising 123 members.

Currently, the Union consists of 13 member associations, 67 provincial-level associations, and numerous district-level chapters. Its membership spans various sectors, including provincial and municipal associations, cultural and artistic organizations, the Women’s Association, the Veterans Association, the Buddhist Association, the Youth and Student Association, the Overseas Student Association, and a network of intellectuals and professionals.

With its longstanding tradition and significant contributions to national development, the Union received the First-Class Labor Order in 2024 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
