On November 8, in Hanoi, the Embassy of India to Vietnam held a celebration for the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program. The 2024 ITEC Day honors the Vietnam-India relationship. It is also a gathering event for Vietnamese alumni to recall memories of their days in India.

Speaking at the ceremony, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya expressed his delight at the strong and sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and India.

The ITEC program is a key component of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. To date, the program has provided scholarships to over 3,400 students from various Vietnamese ministries, departments, sectors, schools, banks, and press agencies. These scholarships cover a wide range of courses, including management, information technology, national security and defense, business, environment, and agriculture. The number of scholarships from the ITEC program in Vietnam continues to rise, reaching approximately 200, with a particular focus on civil and defense courses.

"I hope that the success and progress of our students will reflect the success and progress of the Vietnam-India bilateral relationship," stated Ambassador Sandeep Arya.

About 300 Vietnamese alumni attended the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day 2024.

Pham Quang Hung, Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Education and Training, highlighted that the participation of Vietnamese students in the ITEC program is a testament to the robust cooperation between Vietnam and India.

Over the past 30 years, the ITEC program has trained thousands of Vietnamese cadres, lecturers, and civil servants across various fields. This has significantly contributed to improving human resource quality and advancing Vietnam's goals of industrialization and modernization. The ITEC program serves as a bridge, strengthening educational and training cooperation between Vietnam and India, and enhancing the overall bilateral relationship between the two countries.

At the ceremony, former ITEC students talked about their studies in India.

Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Quynh of Hanoi National University of Education, a former ITEC student, shared that her studies in India provided her with a fresh perspective, deepening her understanding of Indian culture and traditions and fostering a greater appreciation for the people. With the knowledge and experience gained from the course, she continues to impart the values of Indian spirit and vitality to her students in her teaching process.

Established in 1964, the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme is a capacity-building initiative sponsored by the Government of India. The program aims to share India's expertise, development experience, and best practices with partner countries. ITEC offers courses in India to students from 160 countries, including Vietnam. To date, the program has trained over 200,000 students, creating an extensive alumni network across continents and serving as a cultural bridge between India and its partner countries.

In 2024, ITEC provided scholarships to Vietnamese officials, experts, and scholars at several prestigious institutes in India, such as the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Institute for Human Resource Development, International Audit and Information Systems Centre, Indian Institute of Technology, National Institute of Labour Economics and Development, Rashtriya Raksha University, and the Center for Development of Advanced Computing Technology (C-DAC).
