Vietnam-Laos traditional special relations need to be promoted and educated among youths

Overview of the meeting.

At the talk, both sides expressed the belief that under both Parties and States' directive, Vietnam-Laos special friendship and cooperative relations in general and youth cooperation, in particular, would continue to sustainably develop, bringing practical benefits.

Both sides discussed cooperative contents between two Youth Unions in the coming time. Accordingly, they agreed to continue promoting propagating, educating activities on Vietnam-Laos traditional special relations to the young in both countries. Those education activities shall be a combination of offline and online social network communication.

According to Tuan, in 2021, if the COVID-19 pandemic is fully controlled, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union is willing to coordinate with the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union to send delegations to Vietnam-Laos Youth Friendship Meeting, which will be held in Laos. The HCMC Communist Youth Union will also welcome 2 Laos family delegations to Vietnam. If the COVID-19 pandemic situation keeps on complicatedly developing, the two Youth Unions will still hold programs for youth exchange in each country.

2022 will be the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations. To celebrate this event, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union proposes to upscale the Vietnam-Laos Youth Friendship Meeting to welcome 200 Laos delegates. "Following the footprints of Vietnamese and Laos leaders" event is proposed to be held for the second time in 2022 to introduce both countries' students to historical sites relating to the lives and revolution careers of each country's leader. If the pandemic is not yet under control by that time, exchange events for students in both countries will still be held online but on a greater scale.

On the field of staff training, both sides plan to open 2 training classes with 25 students per class in each year of 2021 and 2022. Base on the actual situation, the classes may be held either online or offline.

Besides, Vietnam and Laos Youths Union commit to remaining solidarity, close attachment, support, and cooperation in multilateral youth exchange activities regionally and internationally, especially in the ASEAN framework.

At the talk, the two leaders inform the deployment process of Center for Lao-Vietnamese youth cadres training in the Vientiane (Laos) building project, whose value reaches up to VND 200 billion (nearly 87,000 USD). The project was proposed by the two Youth Unions and approved in the 43rd Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee, which took place on December 6, 2020, in Hanoi.

In addition, the two Youth Unions will also cooperate in journalism and publishing; researching and implementing specific cooperative exchange activities, especially in target groups such as young entrepreneurs, young physicians, and young intellectuals.

At the meeting, Mr. Alounxai Sounnalath thanked the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union during the past time for its active coordination with the Central Committee of Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union, bringing practical benefits to the young of the two countries, contributing to nurturing the Vietnam - Laos special friendship relationship for sustainable development.

Mr. Alounxai Sounnalath expressed his hope that in the coming time, the two Youth Unions would continue to review the content of cooperation in the 2017-2022 and further period, which needed to be focused more on education for the young on two countries' traditional relations. Mr. Alounxai Sounnalath also asked the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to support Laos to build the Ho Chi Minh Trail icon in Laos, assist the Lao Children's Cultural Center and youth association to perform more effectively.
