The Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union on June 5 held a ceremony to hand over medical supplies and equipment to Savannakhet and Salavan provinces to support them in the Covid-19 fight.

The donation comprised of 20,000 face masks, 55 boxes of hand sanitizers, eight boxes of hand soap and 100 boxes of instant noodles, worth a total of VND 120 million (US$ 5,233).

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the secretary of Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union shared the difficulties that the people of Savannakhet and Salavan provinces had suffered, expressing her hope that the aid would contribute to the provinces’ efforts in battling Covid-19.

She added that the donation was a sign of good friendship and solidarity between the people of Vietnam and Laos in general and youth of Quang Tri and the two provinces in particular.

Secretary of Savannakhet Provincial Youth Union Phoulamphone Xihavong expressed his thanks to Quang Tri Youth Union for its valuable assistance, adding that the gifts would be used effectively.

On this occasion, Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union visited and presented gifts to officers and soldiers performing Covid-19 prevention and control work in the province.

On June 3, 2021, on behalf of Da Nang leaders, director of the city Department of Foreign Affairs Huynh Duc Truong presented VND 1 billion (US$ 43,605) to the Consulate General of the Lao PDR in Da Nang to support Lao provinces in the Covid-19 fight.

Director of Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs Huynh Duc Truong presents the aid to Lao Consul General in Da Nang Viengxay Phommachanh.

Da Nang gifted five provinces of Savannakhet, Attapeu, Sekong, Champasak and Salavane VND 200 million each.

Director of Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs Huynh Duc Truong said: “Although the gift is not large, it is symbol pf the affection and sharing of Party, authority and people of Da Nang for Lao provinces. I hope that provinces will soon win over the pandemic and restore the economy.”

Lao Consul General in Da Nang Viengxay Phommachanh extended his thanks to Da Nang for its timely and valuable support. He said that the donation would soon be distributed to localities. He also praised Da Nang’s creative and effective measures in preventing and controlling the pandemic.

Earlier, Da Nang City Party Committee and People's Committee presented VND 100 million and 20,000 face masks to the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia to aid Vietnamese Cambodians to surmount difficulties posed by the pandemic.

Recently, at the La Lay International Border Gate, which bridges Quang Tri and Laos's southern province of Salavan, the delegation of the Thua Thien - Hue Union of Friendship Organizations organized a gift giving program to support the people of Sekong and Salavan provinces to prevent Covid-19.

The Friendship Union and the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association of Thua Thien - Hue organized the donation of medical supplies, including 150,000 medical masks, 500 sets of protective clothes and 300 bottles of hand sanitizer for the people of Sekong and Salavan. These are two provinces bordering with Thua Thien Hue province.

This is the result of practical contributions of many individuals and collectives to the donation program "Standing with the Lao people to prevent and combat Covid-19" along with the companionship of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha chapter in Thua Thien province. - Hue and Kim Sora Co., Ltd.

Lao PM extends sympathy to Vietnam over Covid-19 outbreak

Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh said he firmly believed that under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and with the strong resolve of the government and people, Vietnam would soon contain the Covid-19 pandemic, according to VOV.

In a letter sent to his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh, the Lao leader expressed his sympathy over the complex developments of Covid-19 in many Vietnamese cities and provinces.

Lao leaders and people highly value the drastic and timely measures adopted by Vietnam to fight the pandemic, he stressed.

On this occasion, Phankham Viphavanh thanked the Vietnamese side for its support to Laos during the pandemic combat and said that the Lao Party, government and people were willing to stand side by side with Vietnam, in line with the spirit of great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Over the past few days, many agencies and organizations in Laos raised funds to aid the pandemic fight in Vietnam.

Laos’ National Assembly Vice Chairperson Khambay Damlath and PTL Holding Committee Limited Strategy and Planning Chairman Alounkeo Kittikhoun, who is also former minister of the Lao Prime Minister’ Office, on June 3 and 4 handed over US$ 30,000 in total to the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos to support the pandemic fight in the country.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung gave thanks for the meaningful and timely gift from the Lao side and noted his belief that Vietnam would fulfill its dual goal of pandemic containment and socio-economic development.
