Hanoi Capital High Command on May 25 held a ceremony to hand over medical equipment and supplies to the Vientiane Capital Military Command of Laos to support the neighboring country in its Covid-19 fight.

The ceremony was attended by Major General Nguyen Quoc Duyet, Commander of the Hanoi Capital High Command and Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang.

The aid includes 50,000 face masks, 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer and 50 electronic thermometers.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Major General Nguyen Quoc Duyet said through the donation, the Hanoi Capital High Command wanted to share difficulties that the Lao army and people have suffered, and contribute to beefing up the solidarity, friendship and mutual trust between the two countries in general and armies and capital commands of Hanoi and Vientiane in particular.

He expressed his hope to receive more attention and support from the Lao Embassy in Vietnam so that the two capital commands would promote cooperation, thereby fulfilling their assigned tasks.

For his part, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang said the donation was a manifestation of special solidarity and great friendship between Laos and Vietnam, affirming that the donation would be used effectively in Laos’ fight against the novel coronavirus.

Previously, on May 19, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association gifted more than 600 million VND (26,046 U.S. dollars) to the Lao Embassy in Vietnam to contribute to the country’s efforts in the Covid-19 battle.

On May 25, Lao reported additional 56 Covid-19 cases including 42 domestic and 14 imported cases.

The country has so far recorded 1,878 infections, 1,180 have been given all-clear from the virus. Two died from the disease.
