Vietnam - Mongolia Friendship Association held the 5th Congress for the 2021-2026 tenure in Hanoi on Dec. 21.

The event also welcomed Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Jigjee Sereejav, Ambassador of Mongolia to Vietnam, Ho Xuan Hung, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, President of the Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association in the fourth term, Doan Khanh Tam, Ambassador of Vietnam to Mongolia, Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Sonom-Ishiin Dashtsevel, President of the Mongolia-Vietnam Friendship Association.

According to the congress' report, during the last four terms, the association has enhanced the role of people-to-people diplomacy and promoted its initiative in promoting exchanges between the two sides. The Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association has worked closely with the Mongolia-Vietnam Friendship Association and gained the support of the Mongolian Embassy to Vietnam.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam was elected to be the association's president for the coming term.

The association was granted a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister for its positive contributions to consolidating the friendship between the two countries. In the coming term, the association determines to renew its activities, contributing to the implementation of the Party and State's foreign policy in the spirit of the traditional friendship between the two peoples.

The 5th Congress elected an Executive Board consisting of 31 members, and an Inspection Committee consisting of 3 members.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam was elected to be the association's president for the coming term. Tran Thanh Nam hoped that in the coming time, in addition to enhancing people-to-people relations and cultural exchanges, the association would contribute to promoting economic, trade, and investment relations between the two countries.

He suggested that the two sides' embassies continue to seek initiatives and hold activities to strengthen the traditional friendship.

Congratulating the congress' success, Sonom-Ishiin Dashtsevel, President of Mongolia - Vietnam Friendship Association said he believed that the cooperation between the two friendship associations would reach new achievements in the coming time. The Mongolia-Vietnam Friendship Association will contribute to the people-to-people diplomacy of the two countries.

President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Phuong Nga stressed the following three ideas while commenting on the association's direction in the new term.

Firstly, the association needs to continue to work closely with both embassies and its partners in Mongolia and the Vietnamese community in Mongolia to enhance information exchange on the socio-economic development of each country. It needs to proactively apply information technology, creatively renovate its operation methods to enhance coordination in organizing activities of peace, solidarity, and friendship. It needs to further promote the people's exchange, culture, and potential for cooperation, attracting the participation of people in both countries, especially the young.

Second, it needs to coordinate with ministries to further promote its role in enhancing cooperation in economy, culture, education, tourism, and fields that the two sides have advantages, through which practically contribute to the construction and development of each country.

Third, the association pays attention and focuses on strengthening its team and its member organizations to fuel people-to-people diplomacy activities between the two countries.

On behalf of VUFO's presidium, President Nguyen Phuong Nga presented the medal "For peace and friendship among nations" to Ho Xuan Hung, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, president of the Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association in the fourth term, and People's Artist Nguyen Thi Tam Chinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Circus Federation, Vice President of the Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association. A certificate of merit was granted for Ambassador Tran Nguyen Truc, former Ambassador of Vietnam in Mongolia, Vice President of the association.
