Covid-19 produced by Vietnam works well on mice

As many as 50 mice in the lab, which had injected made-in-Vietnam COVID-19 vaccine, remains healthy, Vietnam’s media cited researchers as saying.

The coronavirus vaccine was jointly developed by researchers from Vietnam’s Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (VABIOTECH) and the U.K.'s Bristol University.

Dr. Do Tuan Dat, President of VABIOTECH in Hanoi, said: "This is the initial success in the development of Covid-19 vaccine in Vietnam."

After 10 days, the mice are in good health and being closely monitored for immune responses, VnExpress cited the VABIOTECH leader as saying.

17 Vietnamese returnees from abroad tested positive for COVID-19

17 people among the number of Vietnamese citizens repatriate from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were detected positive for the deadly virus and quarantined right after set foot home, according to the Ministry of Health.

So far, the tally COVID-19 infection cases in Vietnamhave standed at 288, of which 233 have recovered and no COVID-19- related death reported.

In April and early May, Vietnam has repatriated 1,700 citizens from Canada, Japan, France, Thailand and the UAE. Another 300 Vietnamese are expected to return from Canada, Malaysia and the U.S. by Monday, according to VnExpress.

Non-essential services and businesses allowed to resume operation

Karaoke bars and clubs in Vietnam are still at a halt due to COVID-19.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has given a nod to resume all non-essential services and businesses excluding karaoke lounges and clubs with those facilities pledging to follow strictly instructions of COVID-19 preventive measures.

VNA reported that the decision was made at a meeting on COVID-19 prevention and control in Hanoi on Thursday after three weeks without new community transmission cases of COVID-19 in Vietnam.

Sports activities, football matches and crowded events are also allowed to reopen but participants are suggested to wear face masks and wash hands with sanitizer.

Vietravel Airlines plans to take off in early 2021

Vietravel Airlines belonging to the eponym tour operators, one of the largest of its kind in Vietnam plans to have its maiden flight in early 2021, VNA reported.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung signed Decision No. 457/QD-TTg on April 3 approving the Vietravel Airlines project, which has a total investment of VND 700 billion (USD30 million).

The Thua Thien Hue-based air carrier is the first one to get the government's green light for establishment amid the aviation industry as COVID-19 has caused serious impacts on Vietnam's aviation industry revenue.

In another move, The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam's (CAAV) is proposing to resume international commercial flights with limited frequency as of June 1, roughly three months after the issuance of travel restrictions. Preference will be given to experts and persons on a mission in these flights.

However, these flights must be monitored carefully and regulations of social distancing ought to be carried out.

Celebrations ring out on Buddha’s birthday

A ceremony was held by the Vietnam Buddhist Shangha (VBS) in Hanoi on May 7 to mark Buddha’s 2564th birthday, VNA reported.

Unlike previous years with thousands of followers participating in the Vesak ceremony, this year event was air on An Vien Television, VTVCab, and social media with Buddhists nationwide celebrating from afar.

Earlier, on behalf of Party and State leaders, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on May 6 visited and extended greetings to the VBS Central Committee, monks, nuns, and followers.
