The 12th plenum of the Party Central Committee, opened in Hanoi on May 11 under the chair of Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong. The Party Central Committee convened its 12th conference as members are gathering to examine which personnel will work during the next tenure.

According to VNA, the four-day conference represents a significant event in the country’s political calendar with the 13th National Party Congress drawing closer. Candidates must have good ethics and lifestyle, be real examples for others, and have high prestige among the public. They must neither be involved in corruption nor be opportunistic, and have no ambition for power. Candidates must also be well aware of the responsibility to preserve and protect unity and solidarity among the Party.

At the plenum, Politburo member and Chairwoman of the National Assembly submitted to the PCC a scheme on directions for the general election of deputies to the 15th legislature and People’s Councils at all levels in the 2021-2026 tenure.

The PCC’s 12th plenum will last until May 14.

The Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) is encouraging people to send their photos capturing Vietnam in the combat against COVID-19 to www.trienlamanhCovid-19.com for June 1’s exhibition, VNA reported.

The event aims to push ahead with communications to raise public awareness of the pandemic, highlight Vietnam’s enormous achievements in the COVID-19 fight, and honor the photo takers.

The organizer said photos sent to the exhibition should depict the country and people in the disease prevention and control efforts, their daily lives in the pandemic, along with the exemplars and those working in the frontline.

Senders can be professional photographers, photojournalists or those able to take COVID-19-themed photos in Vietnam, and each can submit up to 20 works that are separate photos or groups of photos.

Vietnam has allowed the resumption of religious practices while exercising precautions after the COVID-19 situation in the country at ease, Hanoitimes reported.

As per the permission on May 8 by the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, religious organizations are allowed to resume normal activities but worship places should adhere to disease prevention and control protocol.

As requested by Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vu Chien Thang, those who attend mass religious gatherings have to wear face masks and wash hands. People who return from foreign regions hit by the pandemic must be quarantined in 14 days.

The committee also allows clinics run by religious groups to reopen and to give medical treatment to patients. Religious sites can start to welcome domestic visitors.

Vietnam set to welcome dual investment flows following COVID-19

Despite FDI showed signs of a slowdown as a result of the negative impact of COVID-19, experts believe that the nation will be able to welcome an array of fresh dual investment after the pandemic, VOV reported.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency (FIA), the country attracted US$12.33 billion in FDI in the first four months of 2020, an annual fall of 15.5% due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,

Moreover, the FIA has attributed this decrease in FDI over the four-month period to travel restrictions, in addition to changes in new investment decisions and the expansion of projects as a result of the epidemic. Furthermore, the supply of input materials for production as well as the demand placed on the output products of businesses faced numerous difficulties.

Simultaneously, the consumer market has tended to be narrower as a result of a series of delays and cancelled orders. This has led to plenty of FDI enterprises facing challenges when trying to maintain and expand production and business due to a lack of foreign experts.
