Vietnam offers US $100,000 flood relief assistance to China

On Thursday ASEAN foreign ministers issued a joint statement on the recent floods in China at the suggestion of Vietnam, the current chair of the bloc, extending their sympathies and condolences to the government and people of China.
"ASEAN affirms its solidarity with the Chinese government and people, stands ready to extend its assistance. ASEAN is confident that China will overcome the challenges and recover swiftly from the impact of this natural disaster," the statement reads.
Torrential rains and flooding have been raging many parts of the country since early June, disrupting the lives of more than 37 million people, at least 141 people have gone missing or dead. Around 28,000 houses were destroyed, over 2,246,00 residents have to relocate due to floods in 27 provincial-level regions in China, including eastern Anhui and Jiangxi provinces. The country also suffers billions of dollars of damage, the Chinese government reported.
The water levels of 433 rivers in China have risen over the danger mark since early June, with 33 of them rising to historical highs, said the Ministry of Water Resources on Monday, according to VGP.
Meanwhile, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Guye District of Tangshan City in north China’s Hebei Province on July 12, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC). The epicenter was monitored at 39.78 degrees north latitude and 118.44 degrees east longitude, with the quake striking at a depth of 10km, the CENC said.
Earlier on July 7, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent a message to his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang expressing sympathy for the loss of human life and property. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent a message expressing sympathy to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the same day, VNE reported.
