Vietnam, Slovakia Push for Stronger Economic Cooperation

The 30th anniversary of the Slovak Republic's National Day of (1992 - 2022) was celebrated on August 28 by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) and the Vietnam - Slovakia Friendship Association in the southern metropolis, demonstrating solidarity and friendship between the people of HCM City and Slovakia.
In his speech, Bui Quang Hai, chairman of the Vietnam - Slovakia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City highlighted the tradition and the sound relationship between the two countries, saying that the diplomatic ties officially established on February 2, 1950 with Czechoslovakia, now the Slovak Republic over the past 30 years is the foundation for the friendly relations of the two peoples.
In particular, in the past struggle for national independence and national construction, Vietnam had received practical and effective support and help from the government and people of Czechoslovakia in the past and now the Slovak Republic.
Former students and officials who studied and worked in Slovakia have become witnesses and served as a bridge for the good friendship between Vietnam and Slovakia, which is increasingly being consolidated and developed across multiple fields.
The Vietnamese community residing in the Slovak Republic has so far actively integrated into the Slovak society, becoming the 14th ethnic minority community of Slovakia and making positive contributions to the host nation.
Over the past years, the friendship and all-around cooperation between Vietnam and the Slovak Republic as well as localities of the two countries have continuously consolidated and developed well.
Also on this occasion, the Vietnamese community and Slovak local government launched the "Vietnam Day" event in Bratislava with a broad range of diverse activities introducing cultural features, cuisine, and martial arts of the two countries.

Marian Veres, Deputy Ambassador and Trade Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovakia in Vietnam highly appreciated the good feeling the Vietnamese people gave to his nation and believed that with many things to complement each other, both nations will jointly promote the common relationship for their mutual benefits.
"Vietnam and Slovakia enjoy close historical ties. For the Slovak people, Vietnam is an attractive and potential country. During my working term in Vietnam, I will do my best to further strengthen bilateral relations, especially in the field of economic cooperation," Marian Veres emphasized.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, many Slovak businessmen showed their interest in Vietnam, Marian Veres said, while expressing his confidence that this positive trend will return, making it possible for businesses of the two countries to jointly organize economic and commercial activities as well as other initiatives.
According to the HUFO, over the years, Slovakia has remained an important partner of Vietnam in Central and Eastern Europe, with two-way trade turnover seeing a steady increase every year.
Data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC) indicated that bilateral turnover between Vietnam and Slovakia reached more than US$1 billion in 2020.
