On the evening of January 24, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Marco Rubio on his appointment as US Secretary of State. He affirmed that the United States is among Vietnam's leading Comprehensive Strategic Partners and appreciated the US's support for a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam. He expressed his wish for continued close coordination to further promote cooperation within the framework of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, benefiting the people of both countries and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
Through Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son conveyed the congratulations of the leaders of the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam to President Donald J. Trump and Vice President James David Vance.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the Vietnam-US relationship has a solid foundation based on many common interests. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries, he expressed hope that the two nations would continue to build an increasingly effective Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He also appreciated the concerns and major orientations proposed by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son for future bilateral relations.
Secretary Rubio affirmed that the Vietnam-US relationship is a model in international relations, sharing many common interests, which is fundamental for its continued development.

They highlighted the need for enhanced dialogue to contribute to regional peace, stability, cooperation, and development.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son reiterated the invitation to Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit Vietnam. Secretary Rubio gladly accepted the invitation and expressed his desire to visit Vietnam soon.
As the Lunar New Year of the snake is approaching, Secretary Rubio, on behalf of the US leadership, sent New Year greetings to the leaders and people of Vietnam.
