Attending the ceremony from Vietnam was President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam – Uzbekistan Friendship Association Luong Phan Cu, Honorary Consul of Uzbekistan in Vietnam and head of the VUFO Europe Department.

From Uzbekistan, the ceremony was attended by Kurbanov Rustambek Javdatovich, Chairman of the Committee of the Interethnic Relations and Friendly Cooperation with Foreign Countries under the cabinet of ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Acting Chairman of the Uzbekistan – Vietnam Friendship Association Mukhamedov Alisher Rustamovich and other officials from the committee.

VUFO President Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga said people-to-people activities of the Vietnam and Uzbekistan friendship associations were firmly maintained despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The Vietnam – Uzbekistan Friendship Association and the Uzbekistan-Vietnam Friendship Association have jointly held many meaningful activities such as celebrating the independence days of Uzbekistan and Vietnam, connecting businesses from both countries, holding photo exhibitions and promoting initiatives to enhance bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Uzbekistan. These activities have contributed to maintaining the friendship and attachment between the peoples of Vietnam and Uzbekistan.

Nga and Cu affirmed that the signing of the two Memorandum of Understanding was a great accomplishment of the two countries’ organizations and associations. They created a stable and comprehensive legal framework to promote people-to-people cooperation in many aspects such as cultural promotion, tourism, workshops and dialogues on topics of shared interests, thereby helping the public from both countries to understand each other’s history, culture and people and bringing Vietnam – Uzbekistan traditional friendship to a new level.

According to the Memorandums of Understanding, different activities will be held in Vietnam and Uzbekistan in the period 2021 – 2023, such as organizing exchange programs in arts and culture with the participation of artists, photographers and artisans working in folk arts and sports, holding photo and traditional craft exhibitions, cooperating in education by organizing joint academic programs and promoting Vietnamese films in Uzbekistan and vice versa.

Nga spoke of the success of the 13th Party Congress of the Vietnamese Communist Party in February 2021. The congress’s resolution highlighted that “people-to-people relation is one of the three pillars of Vietnam’s modern and comprehensive diplomacy” and stressed that signing meaningful Memorandums of Understanding was practical to successfully carrying out Vietnam’s foreign policies.
