The Vietnamese Ambassador to Ecuador pledged to make active contributions to further expanding bilateral ties, when presenting a letter of credentials to the President of Ecuador.

Vietnamese Ambassador Dang Truong Giang presented State President Vo Van Thuong’s credentials to President of Ecuador Guillermo Lasso Mendoza at the presidential palace in Quito capital, VNA reported.

Ambassadors of 10 other countries also presented the credentials to the Ecuador President on this occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Lasso reaffirmed Ecuador’s resolve to open its economy to attract foreign investment and facilitate its international integration despite facing socio-economic and political difficulties.

He expressed his belief that Ecuador would continue the democratic process and economic development following the coming extraordinary presidential election.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador Lautaro Pozo Malo and Head of the Protocol Department of the Ecuador Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador Helena Yanez Loza, received the Vietnamese diplomat.

They spoke highly of Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements as well as its increasing role and position globally, and expected that Vietnam would share its experience and support Ecuador’s bid to join international organisations.

Ambassador Giang conveyed the senior Vietnamese leaders’ greetings to President Lasso and other senior leaders of Ecuador, and vowed to work hard to contribute to expanding cooperation between Vietnam and the South American nation.

Vietnam and Ecuador established diplomatic ties in 1979. The Ecuadorian government decided to open an embassy in Hanoi in 2018.

According to statistics of the Central Bank of Ecuador, in 2022, trade between Vietnam and Ecuador will reach USD 362 million. In which, Vietnam's export turnover to Ecuador reached USD 228 million, up 4.1% compared to 2021 (up USD 9 million). The main export products from Vietnam to Ecuador include phones and mobile phones, footwear, fertilizers, clothing, industrial machinery.

Non-oil imports from Ecuador are worth USD 134 million, an increase of 208.4% compared to 2021 (an increase of USD 91 million). The main imported items from Ecuador include shrimp, fresh flowers, seafood, wood and other products.

In July, the Vietnam Trade Office in Chile cooperated with the Quito Chamber of Commerce to organize a trade cooperation seminar between Vietnam - Ecuador businesses to introduce opportunities and potentials of cooperation with Vietnam to businesses in this South American country, according to information in the Ministry of Industry and Trade's portal.

The Vietnamese side believes that in the coming time, Vietnam's strong products such as wood products, goods textiles, footwear, and coffee will be more present in the Ecuadorian market. The deal also highlights the potential of Ecuadorian products in Vietnam such as cocoa, chocolate, fresh flowers, and wood.

After the seminar, many Ecuadorian businesses wish to connect information on imported footwear, clothing, plastic products, outdoor furniture and handicraft products from bamboo, and labor protection products.

Within the framework of the visit and work in Ecuador, the delegation had a working session with the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce on continuing to organize seminars, forums, showrooms. to further promote bilateral trade relations and prepare for it. for a visit to learn about Ecuador's shrimp farming experience.

The delegation visited and worked with the largest Vietnamese coffee importer in Ecuador. Annually, this company imports about USD 60 millionof Robusta VG2 coffee from Vietnam.
