Vietnamese British kids send hundreds of hand-made cards to nursing home

The handmade cards, all designed and meticulously decorated by the Vietnamese children community in the UK, were given to the Rain On Me charitable organization which would later hand over the gifts to residents of nursing homes.

According to Thoi Dai, the campaign “Vietnamese kids in the UK make cards to the elderly” was launched on March 1. The cards would make heartfelt and invaluable gifts to the elderly, giving them a sense of belief, sharing, compassion, and love during the unprecedented pandemic time. During their stay in the nursing home without family visits or outdoor trips, the messages, vivid drawings on the cards might put a smile on the elderly faces.

Two small Vietnamese designers Emily and Ann are reportedly planning to design an Ao Dai collection with decorative patterns inspired by the cards’ images. The costumes will be performed during the Visit and Gift-giving program at two nursing homes in London in late June.

On top of that, hundreds of books depicting the children’s stories while making the cards, how the ideas were developed in the first place, etc., are set to be published this September. Close-up photos of the cards are also featured in the book.

The series of charitable events has been drawing considerable attention and support from international and community organizations, including the Ladies of All Nations International, the Vietnamese community in the UK, Vietnamese Nails Assocation in the UK and many Vietnamese enterprises in the UK.

“The profits from selling books will be donated to the Vietnam Red Cross to help the elderly in Vietnam. This is also a message showing our love for both Vietnam and the UK”, Anna Hoang, spokeperson of the Rain On Me organization was quoted as saying.
