Vietnamese Community in Malaysia Welcomed the New Year 2024

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia always set a priority for the work of overseas Vietnamese with the goal of making the Embassy a shared home for all Vietnamese compatriots.

Recently, the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese Community in the Malaysian state of Penang held a meeting on celebration of the New Year 2024 for Vietnamese compatriots in the area. One focus of the meeting was to discuss with lawyers about marriage and family law, the rights and obligations of Vietnamese workers when working abroad.

Speaking at the meeting, Head of the Vietnamese Liaison Committee in Penang Vu Thi Thu Hong, said that with more than 10,000 Vietnamese people living and working in the area, including up to 3,000 Vietnamese brides, Penang is the state with the largest number of Vietnamese people living and working in Malaysia.

In 2023, the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese Community provided the assistance for about 20-25 difficult cases, among whom are people being mistreated, tortured, and scammed. Therefore, within the framework of the New Year celebration, the Liaison Committee invited lawyer Tharumarajah to disseminate information about Malaysia's marriage and family law, the rights of Vietnamese brides and the risks of not registered marriage.

Nguyen Ba Tan, Second Secretary who is in charge of the community work of the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, highly appreciated the idea of organizing a meeting in celebration of New Year 2024 by the Liaison Committee. This is an opportunity to concrete the spirit of solidarity and attachment of Vietnamese people. Tan emphasized that the overseas Vietnamese community is an indispensible part of the Vietnamese people, an important factor contributing to strengthening cooperative and friendly relations between Vietnam and countries around the world.

The work of Vietnamese people in Malaysia is always of top priority for the Embassy with the goal of making the Embassy a shared home for all Vietnamese compatriots.

In the program, Thai Thi Huong, representative of the Department of Labor Management and Experts in Malaysia, also discussed with the community about the rights and obligations of foreign workers in Malaysia as well as the latest updates from the host country on health insurance, compensation insurance for accidents and death...

According to Huong, by grasping this information when working abroad, Vietnamese people will avoid unnecessary risks, be mentally stable, work enthusiastically, and contribute to building their homeland.

The program was attended by about 300 participants, including many Malaysians married to Vietnamese women and their families. The Vietnamese community in Penang was very happy and excited to welcome the New Year, enjoy Vietnamese cuisine, Vietnamese melodies, and watch traditional ao dai performed by Vietnamese models of all ages.
