Vietnamese defense ministry gifts medical supplies to Laos, Cambodia

The Vietnamese Ministry of Defense held a symbolic ceremony in Hanoi to handover medical supplies and equipment to its Cambodian counterpart, to support the country in its Covid-19 fight, on May 21.
Lieutenant General Vu Chien Thang gifted Cambodia donations including disinfectant sprays, protective clothing, N95 medical masks, medical gloves and Chloramin B.
Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth gave his thanks to the Vietnamese defense ministry for its valuable and timely assistance, adding that the aid was a great encouragement for Cambodia to surmount the difficult times posed by the pandemic.
The aid will be transported to the Cambodian Ministry of Defense at Moc Bai border gate in Tay Ninh province next week, he said.
On May 21, at La Lay border gate in Quang Tri province, the Thua Thien Hue High Military Command, the Young Entrepreneur Association, Military Bank and Scavi and Viettel Companies also presented food and medical equipment to the High Military Commands of Salavan and Sekong Provinces (Laos) to assist them in fighting against the novel coronavirus.

The donation includes 5 tonnes of rice, 152,500 face masks, 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, 3,000 face shields and 120 boxes of instant noodles, worth a total 400 million VND (17,299 U.S. dollars).
At the handover ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Phan Thang, deputy commander of the Thua Thien Hue High Military Command expressed his hope that the gift would contribute to Lao provinces’ efforts in Covid-19 prevention and control.
The representative of the Salavan Province’s High Military Command thanked his Thua Thien Hue counterpart for its support.
On May 21, the Cambodian Ministry of Health recorded 460 new Covid-19 cases, including 15 imported ones. As such, the national tally stood at 24,157, of which 16,524 patients recovered and 165 died. The Lao Ministry of Health confirmed 12 new cases of Covid-19 on May 21. Of the total, five were domestic infections, while the rest were imported and immediately quarantined. The new infections brought the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 1,763, including 80 recoveries and two deaths. |
