12-year-old model Maika Ngoc Khanh wore a Yếm (Vietnamese bodice) dress on the red carpet of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and performed for designer Chona Bacaoco within the framework of the event.

Maika Ngoc Khanh is one of the few Vietnamese faces to appear on the red carpet of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. She attended the prestigious film event at the invitation of an Italian fashion brand.

Maika Ngoc Khanh wears yếm, a traditional Vietnamese bodice used primarily as an undergarment that was once worn by Vietnamese women across all classes.

To promote the image of Vietnamese women to international friends, Maika wears a Vietnamese bodice with a flared skirt by designer Ruby Pham, combined with a ceramic handbag.

Before that, the teenage model attended a party in Cannes and had the opportunity to meet and chat with model Coco Rocha and designer Michael Cinco.

Maika Ngoc Khanh spent more than a month carefully preparing costumes, and accessories to makeup layout for this important occasion with the desire to introduce traditional national culture and highlight the beauty of Vietnamese women on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival.

She also participated in many activities during her two weeks in France, including performing for designer Chona Bacaoco's fashion show.

Yếm is a simply-cut piece of usually simple cloth, that served as the common upper-body garment for Vietnamese women for thousands of years. Vietnamese women usually wore a yếm and a skirt.

Maika Ngoc Khanh wears a unique modern ao dai with 3D pleated sleeves when taking a photo shoot at Berzé-le-Châtel castle.

Maika Ngoc Khanh was born in 2012 in Hanoi and is a familiar face on many fashion catwalks such as Vietnam International Fashion Week, Quang Ninh Ao Dai Festival, and Vietnam Children's Ao Dai Festival, to name a few.

Recently, she was awarded the title Rising Star Young Model of the Year within the framework of the International Amazing Kids Awards 2023 in Thailand. In February, Maika performed for fashion house Leaf Xia at the NYFW Elektra 2024 Fashion Show.

Meanwhile, four designs by Vietnamese fashion designer Phan Huy also graced the 2024 Cannes red carpet.

Singer-songwriter Ginta donned two of Huy’s designs during the festival while travel and fashion influencer Stephania Morales and model Anna Olbrycht wore one each.
