The event saw the participation of the wives of the US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and ambassadors of Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Oman, and ASEAN member nations such as Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, along with and female officials from ASEAN countries' embassies and foreign diplomatic corps in the US.

Nearly half out of the 100 guests at the event wore “Ao dai”. They showcased the elegance of the traditional dress and “Non la,” also a traditional symbol of the Vietnamese people.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung praised activities hosted by the spouses of the ambassadors of the ASEAN nations in the US, as well as the initiative of organizing this event, saying it contributed to honoring Vietnamese women, enhancing exchanges and solidarity among the ASEAN diplomatic community, and promoting distinctive culture values of the ASEAN countries to international friends and partners.

His spouse Tran Thi Bich Van stressed that “Ao dai” is more than just a thing to cover the head, but also reflects the identity and spirit of the Vietnamese people, as well as the cultural quintessence of the Southeast Asian nation.

She noted a hope for more opportunities to introduce and promote the costumes and Vietnamese culture to friends from other ASEAN countries, the US, and other nations.

International friends were impressed by the beauty and charm of the wives of the ambassadors of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Vietnam, who were in the Vietnamese traditional dress.

The event also featured a booth introducing Vietnamese silk products.

At home, the Hanoi Ao Dai Festival 2023 will take place in the capital city from October 13-15 with the participation of fashion designers, craft villages, and tourism firms.

An opening ceremony is scheduled for October 13 evening at the pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi.

A parade of people in “Ao dai” will be held at Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter, and Long Bien Bridge areas.
