According to the Vietnam News Agency in Vientiane, in the context that Laos people are working hard to prevent and control the 2nd wave of COVID-19 infection in this country, in the spirit of mutual affection, the Vietnamese community in Laos has held many activities to raise fund and donate basic necessities and medical supplies to help Laos Government and people in the fight against this dangerous disease.

On the morning of May 5, Star Telecom Ltd. (Unitel), a joint venture of Viettel Telecom Group in Laos, supported the Lao Government and people with nearly USD 538,000 including cash and technological supplies to improve the prevention efficiency in the second wave of COVID-19.

This gift includes over 50,000 dollars given to the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention, the Ministry of Health of Laos, 100,000 dollars directly transferred to the accounts of 1,000 nurses, frontline doctors at Vientiane capital, Champasak province, and Luang Prabang province. Besides, Unitel also supports the Lao Ministry of Health to build the Vaccination Management System and the Vaccine Passport (National Immunization Information Management System) that worth over USD 200,000 to manage all vaccine recipients by unique ID number, as well as manage vaccination process, vaccine supplies and lifelong vaccination history of each citizen.

Previously, on May 3, Laos-Vietnam Joint Venture Bank (LaoVietBank) also gave the Lao Ministry of Health medical masks, antiseptic solutions, temperature measuring instruments ... with a total value of more than 10,000 dollars.

Vietnam's Sakai Heavy Industries Ltd has also supported the Government, the National Assembly, the people of some Lao villages, and disadvantaged overseas Vietnamese with cash, medical supplies, and necessities, whose value reached more than USD 22,000.

Also in the past few days, Venerable Thich Minh Quang, along with Vietnamese Buddhist monks and nuns in Tich Lao Pagoda and the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane visited and donated to the Laotian monks at many pagodas with free meals at a number of charities in Vientiane.

In recent days, Vietnamese Association branches not only in Vientiane but also in many provinces/cities of Laos have also called the community to join hands with the Lao Government and people to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the spirit of solidarity and mutual love, the total amount of money, necessities, and medical supplies that the Vietnamese have donated to Laos authorities of all levels have reached hundreds of millions of Laotian Kip. This number will surely increase in the coming days.
