Vietnamese Expats and Friends Celebrate 'Vietnam Day' in Moscow

On the afternoon of May 20, the prestige Moscow National Language University named after Maurice Thores - MGLU held the first "Vietnam Day" with many honored guests, Vietnamese students at MGLU as well as the Russian students studying Vietnamese at MGLU.
The event celebrated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Vietnam as well as the 132th birthday of the great President Ho Chi Minh. In a pleasant exchange of cultures, the first "Vietnam Day" was the special opportunities for delegates and students to honor the development of Russian-Vietnamese relations, cooperation in the field of education and training, and traditional cultural relations between Russia and Vietnam.
Attending the event were MGLU Principal Irina Kraeva; Head of Department of Economics - Science - Education Vietnam Embassy in Russia Le Thi Huyen Minh; President of the Association of Vietnamese in Russia Do Xuan Hoang, representative of the Military Attaché Agency of Vietnam in Russia; Vice Presidents of the Russia - Vietnam Friendship Association, Ms. Regina Budarina and Mr. Piotr Svetov; Many Vietnamese students are studying at MGLU as well as Russian students studying Vietnamese at MGLU.
Speaking at the opening of "Vietnam Day", Rector Kraeva congratulated the guests and students on the occasion. Ms. Kraeva also said that MGLU has trained Vietnamese students since the 1960s, with 300 Vietnamese students graduated, many of whom have held important positions in the government, ambassadors, business owners, and so on in Vietnam.
The school has also started teaching Vietnamese to Russian students since 2017, said Ms. Kraeva. The principal emphasized that “Vietnam Day” at MGLU will become the school's annual event.
In her speech, Head of Economics - Science - Education Department of the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia Le Thi Huyen Minh highly appreciated the principal for hosting "Vietnam Day" at MGLU, saying that this event not only promotes promote cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the field of education and training, but also promote Vietnamese language and culture in Russia.
To celebrate "Vietnam Day", Vietnamese students performed dances and sang songs praising the country and people of Vietnam. The most outstanding performance was the play My Chau - Trong Thuy, which was writen, directed and performed in Vietnamese by Russian students of the Vietnamese language department.

At the end of the program, delegates and students enjoyed traditional Vietnamese food prepared by Vietnamese students themselves.

Attending the ceremony, Kachia, a 5th year student of the Vietnamese Department at MGLU, said that Vietnamese is very interesting and special compared to other languages, so she loves Vietnamese and Vietnam.
On the other hand, Elena Zubtsova, Associate Professor at the School of Oriental Languages, noted that the university is training a total of 27 Russian students to learn Vietnamese, the largest number of universities teaching Vietnamese to Russian students in the capital city. |
