Vietnamese in Japan have expressed their delight at the government’s decision to restore flights from Japan, helping them to return home on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
Phan Trung Hieu, a Vietnamese in Saitama (Japan), said he hopes that national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will reopen international flights in 2022, including those to Japan, to facilitate trade between the two countries and the traveling of Vietnamese expats during the Tet holiday.
Apart from overseas Vietnamese, many Japanese firms have also applauded the decision and noted a hope that the Japanese government would soon open doors for Vietnamese interns.
Mikio Kesagayama, chairman of the board at Tokyo International Communication Committee (TICC), told Vietnam News Agency (VNA) that Japan needs Vietnamese interns.
Earlier, spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said as of early December, the foreign ministry had coordinated to arrange about 800 flights bringing home more than 200,000 Vietnamese from 60 countries and territories.
Vietnamese citizens' demand to return home is high as the Lunar New Year festival arrives and many Vietnamese workers and students have had their visas expire, she said.
The foreign ministry is working closely with ministries, agencies, and localities to arrange more flights carrying Vietnamese citizens home, taking into consideration overseas Vietnamese' wishes, the pandemic situation, and quarantine capacity in the country, Hang added.
