Vietnamese Students in Japan Receive Assistance from Local Government
By the end of March 2022, the first batch of Vietnamese students at Goto Japanese Language School will graduate. The emotional milestone is even more meaningful as they had spent two years studying aboard amid the pandemic.
Goto Japanese Language School is a school established in 2020 by the Goto city government in cooperation with the government of Nagasaki prefecture and Nagasaki Public University, exclusively for Vietnamese students.

Yoshihama Yosuke, Principal of Goto Japanese Language School in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, where 16 Vietnamese students study, sent his blessings to the students.
“We hope that they can become young leaders, contribute more to the country’s development, and at the same time become a bridge between Japan and Vietnam,” he said.
Principal Yosuke emphasized that Vietnamese students were “very obedient, gentle and disciplined”. He praised their efforts in both study and work.
Dream school for international students

Addressing the school’s strength, Principal Yosuke said that its educational programs were designed for students to go on to further study at universities in Japan.
As for the Japanese language exams, the school has built Japanese language learning programs with 800 hours of study per year and regularly organizes exchanges between the school and other Japanese schools to help students learn the Japanese language and the traditional Japanese culture.
Ichitaro Noguchi, Mayor of Goto City, said: “We want to build a Japanese language school in Goto Island to attract foreign students to live and study in Goto Island.”
“Our strength has a scholarship program to support them. We support students with 40,000 yen/month (US $337/month). If they participate in the Japanese language proficiency test and pass the N1 (highest), N2 (second highest) level, they will receive an additional 20,000 yen.”
Thus, during two years of studying here, each student will receive about 1 million yen, and they will not have to refund this amount.
In addition to the above advantages for international students attending Goto Language school, the city also has a great program to support those who come to Japan for internships. If their Japanese language proficiency is not good when coming here, the trainees can learn Japanese for free.
Bright future ahead
In a few more days, 16 Vietnamese students in the first training course of Goto Japanese Language School will officially graduate. For many of them, Goto Japanese Language School gives wings to their dreams on the road to study abroad and a place to support them during two difficult years during the pandemic.

Student Truong Hoa Anh Ngoc, 22, said that she and her friends had received a lot of help from the school and the Goto people. The female student feels connected to the local community and culture.
Anh Ngoc had already planned her future after graduating from Goto Japanese Language School, saying she would continue studying at Nagasaki University.
Le Trung Tin, Anh Ngoc’s classmate, was born in 1997 in Khanh Hoa. Trung Tin said that living and studying conditions in Goto are excellent, so he and his friends could entirely focus on studying without much worry. Trung Tin plans to continue studying information technology in Kagoshima Prefecture after graduation.
Another Vietnamese student Nguyen Thi Thuy from Quang Nam, shared the same opinion, saying that she would continue to study at Nagasaki University and would like to work in Japan to gain more experience before returning to Vietnam.
