The Vietnamese Youths and Students’ Association in the US along with Career Pass Institute USA (CPI) last weekend held a workshop to provide job orientation consultation and connect Vietnamese students in the US, VNA reported.

More than 150 participants including Vietnamese experts, businesspeople and students attended the event held at the office of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) in New York while many others joined online.

During the event, speakers shared experiences in finding a job after graduating from a university in the US and gave the students advice on preparing application documents and interviews.

The event is among a series of career orientation events taking place throughout March 2024, including online discussions, to update both Vietnamese university students in the US and high school students in Vietnam on recruitment trends and human resource needs in the US in the fields of finance, technology, and creativity.

Speaking at the event, Vu Thi Mai Lien, a representative of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, said that in the context of a volatile world economy and an increasingly competitive labor market in the US, the event has practical meaning. This will be a place to provide information and support young people currently researching and studying at universities in the US as well as students in Vietnam in the process of finding jobs and opportunities.

“Being trained and working at foreign companies will make an important contribution to helping young people improve their skills, accumulate experience, thereby developing themselves, progressing towards career success, and at the same time, opening up opportunities for them to contribute to the homeland in the future," Lien added.

Lien affirmed that the permanent mission always considers supporting the Vietnamese community in the US an important task. It has sponsored many activities organized by associations of youth and students in New York in particular and in the US in general including career orientation events, she said, adding that it will keep promoting such activities.

The Vietnamese Youths and Students’ Association in the US is an organization representing the young Vietnamese community in the US, established in 2013. The association has 19 member associations with nearly 15,000 members in more than 40 states.

The association has many big annual activities such as the American ‘bracelet’, Vietnamese expert network program (VNPN), VietChallenge startup contest, American Journey contest, Vietnamese New Year in the US and other programs.

According to the US Embassy in Vietnam, Vietnamese students continue to constitute the fifth largest group of foreign students in the US. The number of Vietnamese students at US universities and colleges has increased by 5.7% to 21,900 students in the academic year 2022-2023.
