Vietnamese students win gold medal at International Informatics Olympiad 2020

All four Vietnamese students competing at the International Informatics Olympiad 2020 won medals including one gold medal, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

Bui Hong Duc, 12th grader from High School for Gifted Students, Ha Noi University of Science under Vietnam National University won gold medal. At the International Informatics Olympiad 2019, Duc also won gold medal.

Vu Hoang Kien, 12th grader and Le Quang Huy, 11th grader from High School for Gifted Students, Ha Noi University of Science under Vietnam National University secured silver medals.

Tran Quang Thanh 12th grader from High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi National University of Education won bronze medal.

With these achievements, Vietnamese team ranked 9th among 87 countries competing at the International Informatics Olympiad 2020. China ranked at the first place with four gold medals.

The 32nd International Informatics Olympiad was held online by Singapore taking place from September 13 to 23. Vietnam team joined the network at the VNU University of Engineering and Technology under a strict monitoring system of the organizing board.

The competition this year attracted the participation of 343 contestants from 87 countries and territories in the world.

Last year, Vietnamese students won two gold, one silver, and one bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics 2019 in Azerbaijan. With all of its contestants bagging medals, Vietnam ranked fourth among 87 countries and territories attending the competition.

Last August, all six Vietnamese students competing in the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) also claimed prizes including one gold, four silver, and one bronze medal.

The International Olympiad in Informatics, one of the most prestigious computer science competitions in the world, is an annual competition for high school students. It is one of the five international science Olympiads, besides mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
