The course, organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, is part of a programme aiming to provide training for Vietnamese teachers abroad this year.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Luong Thanh Nghi said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the training programme took place virtually, with two courses and the highest number of members.

The first course, from Oct. 9 to Nov. 7, involved 258 participants from 10 countries and territories in Asia, including Taiwan, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Australia.

Meanwhile, a total of nearly 130 Vietnamese teachers in 19 countries in Europe and North America are joining the training course.

During the training courses, the teachers are equipped with methodologies based on textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Education and Training, and lessons on Vietnamese history, tradition and culture.

The courses have contributed to preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language, culture and traditions, while connecting the Vietnamese community abroad with the homeland.

Over the past years, the Party and State have paid attention to preserving traditional culture among the overseas Vietnamese community, especially Vietnamese language teaching, Nghi said.

Despite a range of difficulties, Vietnamese language teaching and learning has been maintained and promoted, he added.

Nghi stressed that the Committee appreciated the contributions of teachers to preserving Vietnamese abroad.

The participating teachers used the occasion to share experiences in teaching the Vietnamese language, and express their wish that the Party and State would pay more heed to supporting teachers abroad.

From 2013 to 2019, the Committee coordinated with the Department of Continuing Education under the Ministry of Education and Training to provide such training courses for approximately 300 Vietnamese teachers abroad.

In 2020 – 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Committee had not been able to hold training courses as planned.
