Chinese FM’s Vietnam Visit to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Vietnam from September 10-12, discussing cooperation in the Covid-19 fight and vaccine assistance, according to Viet Nam News.
The announcement was made by the deputy spokesperson of Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet at a press briefing on September 9.
Within the visit, the Chinese minister will co-chair the meeting of the 13th Steering Committee for Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation with Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Binh Minh, hold talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and pay courtesy calls on Vietnamese leaders, the spokesperson said.
At the steering committee meeting, the two sides will discuss measures to resolve existing issues and strengthen the relations between the two countries.
The two sides will also talk about Covid-19 prevention and control, vaccine assistance and supply of medical equipment, the spokesperson said.

The visit, which is made upon the invitations of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, aims to continue to strengthen the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for the interest of two countries’ people and for the peace, stability, cooperation and development of the region and the world, he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh will attend and deliver remarks at the opening ceremony of the 18th China-ASEAN Expo and China-ASEAN Trade and Investment Summit held in China’s Nanning City on September 10 via video conference.
These are among the top 10 expos of China held annually since 2004. This year Vietnam will participate the most extensively among ASEAN countries with 80 businesses attending in person and 200 businesses via video conference.
The participating businesses will introduce and promote signature products of Vietnam including agricultural produce, food, woodworking products and consumer goods as well as promote the country’s investment environment and tourism.

According to Global Times, an English-language Chinese newspaper under the People's Daily, apart from Vietnam, Wang will also visit Cambodia, Singapore and South Korea. His trip lasts from September 10-15.
Speaking of the purposes of the visits, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that these four countries are all close neighbors and important partners with China, and they have been working together with China at the forefront of the global fight against the pandemic and post-pandemic recovery.
China's top diplomat's upcoming visits have shown that China attaches great importance to enhancing cooperation with these countries and the sincerity to boost friendship with its neighbors, he added.
Wang Yi's visits will mainly focus on epidemic prevention and development cooperation, he said, adding that the concerned parties will also talk about regional peace and stability. /.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai since the beginning of 2020, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, senior leaders of the two Parties and States have maintained regular meetings with flexible forms, while bilateral partnership in all fields have been promoted, including collaboration in economy, trade and investment.
Vietnam has been the largest trade partner of China among ASEAN member countries with two-way trade hitting US$19.2 billion in 2020, up 18.7 % year on year, according to statistics from China’s Customs. Meanwhile, China was the third biggest investor of Vietnam last year.
The Ambassador proposed that both sides fully and effectively implement the common perspectives reached by senior leaders of both countries, strengthen political trust, expand and enhance the efficiency of cooperation in fields, promote people-to-people exchange, control and satisfactorily address disagreements on the basis of respecting each other’s legitimate interest in line with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), thus further boosting the growth of the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership in a healthy, stable and in-depth manner, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
