The Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, in collaboration with the Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Navy Command, held a conference sharing insights into Vietnam’s Sea and Islands on October 31, in Nha Trang.

The conference was attended by Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu; Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education Vu Thanh Mai; and nearly 300 delegates representing the Standing Committees of provincial and municipal Party committees, the Committee’s Commission for Information and Education of provincial and municipal Party committees, key leaders from various departments, agencies, sectors, and armed forces across 28 coastal provinces and cities.

To build upon the achievements thus far, all levels, sectors, and localities need to thoroughly grasp the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW, dated October 22, 2018, of the 12th Party Central Committee on the “Strategy for Sustainable Development of Vietnam’s Marine Economy by 2030, with a Vision to 2045”; Resolution No. 44-NQ/TW, dated November 24, 2023, of the 13th Party Central Committee on the “Strategy for National Defense in the New Situation”; the National Assembly’s Resolution on the “National Marine Spatial Planning for 2021–2030, with a Vision to 2050”; as well as related directives and regulations from the Party and State. These measures aim to raise awareness and create consensus among people at all levels concerning the mission of protecting Vietnam's maritime sovereignty.

In his directive speech, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information and Education Vu Thanh Mai affirmed that Vietnam’s sea and islands constitute an inseparable, sacred part of the country's territory with significant importance in the work of national construction and development. They hold immense strategic value across economic, political, social, defense, and security dimensions.

Efforts to promote awareness of Vietnam’s marine and island territories have yielded substantial results, playing a crucial role in enhancing public understanding and affection for these areas.

In recent times, efforts to promote awareness of Vietnam's seas and islands have achieved substantial results, contributing to increased understanding and a deeper love for the country's maritime territories among people. These efforts have also encouraged the forces responsible for managing and protecting the country’s maritime sovereignty.

The conference focused on several key topics, including recent efforts to protect Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty on the political and diplomatic fronts, recent progress in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, recent developments in the East Sea (South China Sea), forecasts for the region, and directions and tasks for maritime sovereignty protection in the time ahead.
