Hoang Su Phi is a bordering highland district located to the west of Ha Giang province. This is also a land where many ethnic groups live such as Dao, Mong, La Chi, Tay, and Nung. Hoang Su Phi rice ripens later, usually in mid-October. As backpacking enthusiasts call it, Hoang Su Phi is the place where the gorgeous natural site of the golden rice terraces is right in front of their eyes.

Hoang Su Phi is similar to Mu Cang Chai but with even fewer tourists. It is even the least touristy area in the not-too-touristy Ha Giang province. That is why this is a great advantage for maintaining the authenticity of this beautiful and unspoiled area.

Although not as famous as Y Ty and Mu Cang Chai rice fields, that does not make the terraced fields here any less magnificent. Ban Luoc, Ban Phung - where there are the highest terraced fields in the country, or national landscapes in Thong Nguyen commune, Nam Ty are the lovely destinations in Hoang Su Phi.

Coming to Hoang Su Phi in October, tourists will have a chance to observe the wonderful view of the terraced fields covered with the yellow color of ripe rice and stretching to the horizon. The yellow color of rice blends with the green color of the forest, creating a majestic but very peaceful and poetic natural picture.

According to other travelers, the most beautiful places to see terraced fields in the main rice season are Chu Phin, Po Lo, Phung Village, Luoc Village, and San Sa Ho. These are places with spacious views and vast rice fields.

The rice season of the terraced fields only has one harvest per year, so tourists will have to choose the right time to come here. The best time to visit Hoang Su Phi is from September to October when the rice changes to golden color. There is a harvest in October. Tourists can also visit the region between March and May during the water season. This means that all fields are placed underwater so that they will be able to see fields sparkle and reflect.

Ban Phung Village is a village near the border with China. From the center of Vinh Quang, tourists have to follow a pass of almost 30 km over a mountain to reach the center. Phung is located on a steep slope and together with Ban Luoc this is the place with the highest terraced rice fields.

Ho Thau is a commune about 16 kilometers away from Nam Dich and belongs to the ethnic population of the Red Dao. The people here place a small forest area around each field to protect the land against landslides.

Ban Luoc is the area of ​​the Dao ethnic minority with many mountains and slopes. These hill tribes have created many terraced rice fields, which is a very powerful sight.
