Fashion Talk to Celebrate Vietnam - France's 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations
"Vietnam Fashion" talk was held by the l’Institut français de HCMV (French Institute in Ho Chi Minh City) in Ho Chi Minh City on September 28.

The discussion attracted the participation of experts, designers, and art enthusiasts.

Talking at the event, Doctor of History Bui Tran Phuong recounted the journey of the ao dai from its inception to its current fame as a symbol of Vietnamese traditional culture, which proves that fashion is not just about following modern trends but also celebrates and maintains cultural heritage in its various forms.

Through discussion, fashion designers from both countries shared stories with ao dai and fashion. Designer Mimi Minh Nguyen brings inspiration from ao dai and her experiences while studying in France to develop Leinné, a fashion brand with sustainable materials. Meanwhile, Thuy Nguyen constantly comes up with new collections whose ao dai is the main character.

Audrey Charles, a representative from France, talked about the profound influence of Vietnamese culture on Metiseko, a brand that she is in charge of. From unique details on fabric bearing a strong Vietnamese impression such as ceramic, terraced fields, and the Trang Tien bridge in Hanoi, to designs that resemble traditional costumes of the Dao people, Metiseko also focuses on preserving the famous Lanh My A silk, handmade and handprinted in Bao Loc.
