Fighting Covid on Vietnam's Remote Islands

Soldiers and people of Truong Sa island district volunteered to contribute, wishing to support the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the context of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Naval Region 4 has strengthened its forces, supported essential items to localities in the area where it was stationed, and joined hands in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, units from the mainland and remote islands seriously implemented pandemic prevention and control measures, ensured safety from the sea direction, and completed combat readiness tasks.

Officers of Naval Region 4, soldiers and the people of Truong Sa island district had sent necessities such as food, agricultural products, medical masks, and antiseptic water to the people of Ho Chi Minh City.

Pham Minh Tuan, vice president of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee said, "I want to thank the officers of Naval Region 4, soldiers and the people on the Truong Sa Islands. Although there are many difficulties in the remote island, they still support the people of Ho Chi Minh City. We will deliver these gifts to people in need in the area, especially the poor in the neighborhood. That is the motivation to help the people of Ho Chi Minh City overcome this pandemic."

Colonel La Van Hung, deputy political commissar of Naval Region 4 said: "When the Covid-19 pandemic showed signs of a strong outbreak in the South Central provinces, we actively supported the localities. We sent forces to help Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa spray disinfectant in the pandemic center; sent military medical forces and vehicles to perform their duties at the No. 4 Field Hospital and participated in the fight against the pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City. We also mobilized officers and soldiers in units, soldiers and people on duty in Truong Sa to support, contribute money to buy food, and essential items to help local people. We launched a movement to support the Covid-19 vaccine fund."

Recently, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 4 have purchased agricultural products to help people in Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province, then transferred them to the people of Thu Duc City.

Tran Dinh Xuyen, vice president of Truong Sa District People's Committee said: We realized that the pandemic situation in the country has been complicated, especially in Ho Chi Minh City, the outbreak has caused people to face many difficulties. Even though we are on a remote island, the prevention of the pandemic is also of particular concern, especially for fishermen every time they enter the island. With all the hearts of the soldiers and people of Truong Sa island district, we volunteered to contribute, wishing to share with the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country against the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We have launched and well implemented the movement to support the Covid-19 vaccine fund. Recently, the soldiers and people of Truong Sa district have donated and supported funds to buy agricultural products, food, and essential supplies to support the people of Ho Chi Minh City in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic. All Truong Sa soldiers and people always raise their awareness in pandemic prevention and control. We are determined not to let the pandemic break out in our units and military bases as well as on the islands, contributing to the whole country's prevention, control of Covid-19," said vice president of Truong Sa District People's Committee.

Although the pandemic situation is complicated and unpredictable, the Naval Region 4 has been effectively preventing and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic. Officers and soldiers throughout the region from mainland to remote islands have a high sense of pandemic prevention and control, determined not to let the pandemic infect the islands in the Truong Sa archipelago. This helps the soldiers to be healthy, to fulfill their training tasks well, to be ready to fight to protect the country's sovereignty over seas and islands, and to join hands with the whole country to soon repel the Covid-19 pandemic.
