"Golden time" to contain coronavirus spread to Vietnam and total rise to 60

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said this is “golden time” to contain spreading of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to VietNam.The Ministry of Health has reported that two more Vietnamese people and a French national tested positive for the novel coronavirus, raising total cases to 60.

He made the above statement while presiding over a meeting on prevention and control of the virus on Monday.

The Government chief reiterated the need to step up efforts in the fight against the pandemic and strictly fining those who disseminate misleading information or failing to honestly declare their medical status.

He asked for placing limits on mass gatherings, especially in urban areas and major metropolises while maintaining centralized quarantine and isolation at places of residence to mitigate transmission.

PM Phuc also asked for reduction of flights from stricken regions. The Ministry of Health, Ministry of National Defense and Ministry of Transport shall decide on designated parking areas for such kind of to prevent transmission.

Vietnam COVID-19 update: Total rises to 60

The Ministry of Health has reported that two more Vietnamese people and a French national tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the total to 60.

The Vietnamese patients include a 26-year old female student living in Dien Bien Ward, Ba Dinh District, Ha Noi returned home from France on March 15.

The other patient is a stewardess, aged 30, who served on the flight VN0054 from the UK to Viet Nam. The flight carrying more than 200 passengers and crew members landed at Noi Bai International Airport on March 2.

On March 14, the stewardess showed symptoms of fever and cough and tested positive for the virus a day later.

Meanwhile, the French man, aged 29, was on a flight from France to Viet Nam on March 9. After arriving in Viet Nam, he travelled to several tourist destinations in Ha Noi and Ninh Binh Province.

On March 15, he returned to Ha Noi and was confirmed positive for the virus the same day.

All the above patients are being treated at the Campus No. 2 of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh District, Ha Noi.

All of them have been reportedly in stable health conditions.

As the virus has spread swiftly across the world, especially in Europe, Phuc tasked central and military hospitals to get ready to cope with the evolution of the pandemic.

The virus has spread to 156 countries and territories with infection cases and fatalities rising to 169,368 and 6.501, according to the Ministry of Health.

Noticeably, the infection rate has quickened over the last 10 days, from 150,000 on March 6 to 170,230 as of 4:30 pm on Monday.

In Viet Nam, the Ministry of Health has reported 60 infection cases, of whom 16 had been cleared of the virus and exited hospitals while the rest have been confirmed since March 6...

The current 41 patients include 17 foreign nationals, most of them are British.

Members of the Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control underlined the necessity to have a clear-cut stand to staunch spread of the noval coronavirus to Viet Nam, during a meeting on Monday morning.Such stand is of signficant importance as the virus has spread quickly to 156 countries and territories with 169,368 infection cases, including 6,501 fatalities. Meanwhile, all new infection cases (41) in Viet Nam have been reported since March 6, including 17 foreign nationals.

The body, led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, urged competent authorities to seriously implement measures on mandatory quarantine for travellers upon their entry to Viet Nam.

The committee also proposed immediate body temperature checks and classification of passengers after they get off planes.

For Vietnamese returning from the pandemic-hit areas, competent authorities must quickly take them to centralized quarantine areas as planned, said the committee.

Experts emphasized the importance of taking synchronous measures to detect suspected cases as soon as possible through accelerating IT application, effective deployment of mandatory medical declaration and voluntary medical declaration for all Vietnamese among others.
