On the afternoon of March 15, the Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung chaired an online meeting relating to COVID-19 prevention and control. At the meeting, Deputy Director of the Department of Health Hoang Duc Hanh said that Hanoi had not recorded any new Covid-19 case for the last 28 days. The city had also given vaccines to 90 frontline health workers. and had also tested 1,391 out of 4,000 samples in risk areas, all of which show negative results.

However, Director of the Department of Health Tran Thi Nhi Ha noted that global experts had warned about many new strains of the virus. Therefore, actively testing and screening for risk of outbreak in the community is a must. Ms. Ha added that Hanoi would complete the first vaccination phase for 8,000 people according to schedule, heading to the goal of ensuring absolute safety.

At this online meeting, district representatives also reported on the implementation of pandemic prevention at monuments and temples. The leader of My Duc district said that after 3 days of reopening, Huong Pagoda relic had welcomed more than 30,000 tourists. The district arranged 650 people to set up pandemic prevention posts, broadcasted notices on the radio system and on Yen stream; arranged 3 monitoring stations with 20 sterilizers, tested suspected cases.

Based on press information, Ms. Tran Thi Van Anh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, affirmed that shortcomings in the implementation of pandemic prevention work at Huong pagoda, Quan Thanh temple, Temple of Literature was fixed timely. Ms. Van Anh also noted that the three districts where the mentioned relic sites locate have done well in directing pandemic prevention.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung emphasized the still-high risk of pandemic in Hanoi, as the people started showing subjunctive behaviors. He noted that restrictions on the economy would soon be loosened, yet preventive methods still need to be strictly implemented. Dung asked units to continue testing, especially in high-risk areas such as crowded neighborhoods, industrial zones, continue to vaccinate priority groups, strictly comply with the 5K message. “The city will hold weekly meetings with all units. Districts are required to keep on briefings twice a week. Units have to send reports once a day at 17:00,” directed Mr. Chu Xuan Dung.

Based on the actual situation, Dung decided to loosen restrictions on some services. From 0:00 on March 16, the intercity bus routes allowed to return to normal operating capacity. The Department of Transport must send instructions on pandemic prevention and declaration as the bus system would get back to normal function.
