At a meeting of Ho Chi Minh Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on May 21, the Chairman of Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong has required streetside eateries to suspend on-site services and only sell takeaways, Zing News reported.

“Any establishment which breaches the regulations will be fined,” Phong said.

The chairman has also requested restaurants with over 10 employees or ones in hotels not to serve more than 20 customers and must ensure a safe distance between them.

In addition, indoor events with more than 30 people and gatherings of more than 20 people in public spaces, except offices, schools and hospitals have also been banned.

“The functional forces need to keep a close watch on crowds and disperse them if they have over 20 people,” the chairman said.

HCMC recorded its first community case on April 29, then spent 20 straight days without any new cases.

Yet in the past three days, the city has reported five new cases aside from a man that had tested positive once in the community, according to VnExpress.

The city has already suspended non-essential services, including bars, karaoke and massage parlors, cultural and religious activities and banned all public gatherings of more than 20 outside companies and hospitals.

Vietnam recorded 58 new cases of Covid-19 over the past six hours to 6 p.m. on May 21, including one imported case who had been quarantined upon their arrival, the Ministry of Health said.

Among the 57 domestic cases, 39 were found in Bac Giang province, 13 in the neighboring province of Bac Ninh, two in Da Nang, one in Lang Son, and two in Tan Trieu facility of the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital.

The latest cases have brought the national count of domestic infections to 3,462, with 1,892 detected since the new wave of the pandemic started in the country on April 27.

The recoveries now stand at 2,689, while the number of fatalities is 41. Among the patients under treatment, 63 have tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 34 twice, and 23 three times.

As many as 129,502 people who had come into close contact with Covid-19 patients or entered Vietnam from pandemic-hit areas are now under medical monitoring nationwide.
