The dialogue and the HCMC Economic Forum (HEF) aim to promote relations between the southern economic hub and its sister localities around the world, as well as create an opportunity to promote Vietnam and its people to international friends, Tran Phuoc Anh, Director of the municipal Department of External Affairs, said at a recent conference.

A highlight of the dialogue will be a mayor summit which will bring together central and local officials, along with representatives of the 58 international localities that have friendship and cooperative ties with HCM City, including those from Germany, the US, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, China, Canada, and Finland, according to the official.
He added there will be discussions on the strengths, priority areas, and potential for international cooperation among localities aiming for sustainable development goals.
Besides, there will also be proposals for collaborative initiatives among these localities to advance industrial transformation in support of these goals.
Within the dialogue, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Symbol at Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1 will be held.
Meanwhile, the HEF, in its fifth edition, will take place from September 24 to 27. It aims to share experiences and receive comments from domestic and international financial institutions, enterprises, and experts on local socio-economic development, targets, and key programs, said Chairman of the HCM City Business Association Nguyen Ngoc Hoa, who play a part in the organizing committee.

The forum is expected to see the attendance of the Prime Minister, and around 1,200-1,500 delegates from Vietnamese ministries, international institutions and organizations, Vietnamese and foreign localities, representatives of diplomatic agencies, consulates, and businesses, as well as domestic and foreign experts in economics, technology, industrial transformation, and sustainable development.
It will focus on such issues as main industrial transformation trends in the world, the governance ecosystem and policies for boosting industrial transformation, HCM City’s industrial transformation strategy and new technology trends, and the role of the city’s Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) in industrial transformation.
On this occasion, the C4IR in HCM City will also be launched, marking the collaboration between the city and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The center, the second C4IR in Southeast Asia apart from the one in Malaysia, is part of the WEF’s global network of Fourth Industrial Revolution centers. It acts as a hub for collaboration in research, policy recommendations, resource mobilization, and technology transfer in industrial transformation.
