According to Hindustan Times, a Western Disturbance is lying as a cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan and an induced cyclonic circulation is lying over northwest Rajasthan and neighbourhood. Moisture incursion from north Arabian Sea over northwest India is likely to reduce from today. Under the influence of all these meteorological features, scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over northwest India today. From then on, a dry weather is predicted over the region from Thursday.

“Maximum temperatures are likely to go up over Delhi and other parts of northwest India from March 26. The maximum temperatures are likely to be around 37-38 degrees C (°C) by end of the month,” said Kuldeep Shrivastava, head, regional weather forecasting centre.

Scattered rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning is likely over parts of central and west India during the next two days. Hailstorms are also likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. Due to eastward movement of the Western Disturbance, dry weather will prevail over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from today, according to IMD. Clear weather conditions are likely over Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh from Thursday.

According to Skymet Weather, a western disturbance is over Himachal Pradesh and the adjoining area. An induced cyclonic circulation is over northwest Rajasthan and adjoining area. A north-south trough is extending from the Karnataka coast to south-east Madhya Pradesh across interior Karnataka and Maharashtra.

During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain and snow with few heavy spells occurred at many places over Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh. Scattered rain and snowfall over Ladakh and Uttarakhand.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred over Punjab, Haryana, parts of west Uttar Pradesh, North and East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Delhi NCR recorded isolated light rain. Temperatures dropped by 2 to 3 degrees over Punjab, Uttarakhand, east Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and parts of Chhattisgarh.

5-Day Nationwide Forecast

According to Weather.com, the Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan, with an induced cyclonic circulation located over northwest Rajasthan and neighbourhood. Moisture incursion from the northern Arabian Sea over northwest India has reduced, and the main weather activity over Northwest India will reduce spatially and intensity wise, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

However, isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorms and lightning are very likely over the Western Himalayan Region (Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) on Wednesday. Isolated hailstorms are also possible over Uttarakhand today.

Further, northwesterly winds from the Western Disturbance and westerly winds will converge over Central India and cause instability over the region and adjoining areas on Wednesday. Accordingly, isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected over East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, interior Maharashtra and Telangana on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation is over Northeastern India, and it will bring isolated to scattered snow or rain with lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, and isolated snow or rain with lightning over Sikkim in this period.

A trough and circulation could also persist over Southern India in this forecast period, thereby causing Isolated to scattered rain with lightning over Kerala in this period.

Due to the eastward movement of the above Western Disturbance, dry weather will prevail over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from today onwards. Clear weather conditions are very likely over Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh Thursday, March 25. Similar dry conditions will be visible across Western and Eastern India from Thursday as well.

As for the mercury levels, maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are possible over isolated places across Western and Southern India on Wednesday, and they will spread out from Saturday onwards.

No heatwave conditions are on the horizon over the country during the next 4-5 days. Maximum temperatures will be below average over Central India and adjoining areas from Wednesday to Saturday, while other areas are likely to witness near-normal or warmer temperatures in this period. On the other hand, the minimum temperatures will be near-normal or slightly below average over Central India in this period. Other areas, however, shall remain warmer in this period.

Scattered rains and thunderstorms are likely over Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Isolated rain/snow and thunderstorms have been predicted over Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Isolated rain and thunderstorms are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and interior Karnataka.

Max temperatures of 40°C or more are possible over isolated places of coastal Western, Southern and Eastern India.
