Italian ambassador appreciates Vietnamese alumni’s support to fight against Covid-19

In the latest statement delivered from Hanoi, the Italian ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro has expressed his sincere gratitude toward Vietnamese alumni of Italian universities for their practical deeds and shares to the Covid-19 hit the country.

Accordingly, in a letter sent to Vietnamese students and alumni of Italian universities, the ambassador hailed their idea of raising fund to purchase medical supplies for Italian people in their fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The Italian Embassy to Vietnam in Hanoi affirms to stand ready to assist the initiative from the funding activities, shipment and essential procedures to ensure “the beautiful example solidarity is conducted in the way as quickly and effectively as possible”.

“I would like to thank from bottom of my heart all the Vietnamese who participate in the initiative for your kindness and heart warming gestures you shown to the people of Italy. Your actions one again proven the importance of the people-to-people diplomacy that connect Italy and Vietnam, particularly between Vietnamese and Italian youths and students, whose extraordinary capacity to create sincere bonds that are forged by affection, appreciation and cooperation which is stronger than ever in the time of need,” Italian ambassador wrote.

He also expressed his desire that the activity will be carried out successfully and belief that Vietnam, Italia and other countries will soon defeat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The letter was announced as Uni Italia Office, the Vietnam – Italia higher education forum, opened their bank account on March 21 to receive contributions that are to be donated to Italy. The proceeds raised will be used in the purchase of protective equipment, particularly medical face masks, which are to be shipped to the Vietnamese embassy in Rome where they will be distributed to local people and Vietnamese students in Italy.

Until 2 am this morning in Vietnam (local time), Italia confirmed 4,032 dead of Covid-19 while the infection cases jumped to 6,000 on March 20, taking Covid-19 patients total of the country to 47,021.

Italy just surpassed China as the country with the highest coronavirus death toll, making up 36.2% of the world’s toll.
