Japan to Receive the Most Vietnamese Laborers
Reports show that, in the first 9 months of 2023, the total number of Vietnamese workers abroad is 111,507, reaching 101.37% of the 2023 plan. In 2023, it is planned to send 110,000 Vietnamese laborers or more to work abroad under contracts, equal to 108.23% over the same period last year.
Japan is the leading market in receiving Vietnamese laborers with 55,690 workers (of which 23,758 are female), followed by Taiwan (China) with 46,166 workers (of which 13,733 are female), South Korea (2,449 workers), China (1,361 male workers), Hungary (1,148 workers), Singapore (1,015 male workers), Romania (705 workers), Poland (651 workers), Saudi Arabia (205 workers) and other markets.

In September 2023, there were 14,273 laborers working abroad, 5,402 of them female. The main receiving markets include Japan (8,475 workers), Taiwan (4,512 workers), Korea (505 workers), China (198 male workers), Hungary (146 workers), Poland (88 employees), Romania (78 employees), Singapore (51 male employees), Macau (45 employees), Malaysia (34 workers), Saudi Arabia (33 workers) and other markets.
With an increase in the number of workers in Japan, Vietnam is sending the most among 15 countries that send workers to Japan. As of December 2022, it is estimated that 345,000 Vietnamese laborers are living and working in Japan.
Japan attracts more than 50% of Vietnam's exported workers. There are currently more than 200,000 Vietnamese interns, the largest number among labor-sending countries in Japan.
Vietnam also leads among 15 countries sending interns to work in Japan. Vietnamese interns increased eight times, from 10,000 in 2013 to 82,700 in 2019. After three decades, Japan received a total of more than 400,000 Vietnamese interns.
In addition, there are about 80,000 specialized skilled workers (who can work long-term in Japan with better salaries); nearly 1,700 nursing and midwifery candidates; 65,000 technical workers, engineers, interpreters, and thousands of laborers from poor localities working under the JM Japan program. By the end of 2022, a total of more than 345,000 Vietnamese laborers were working and living in Japan in 84 occupations.
