Local Authorities Assist Lao, Cambodian Students in Covid-19 Crisis

Many Laotian and Cambodian students are receiving care from local authorities in Dong Thap and Lam Dong provinces during the Covid-19 outbreak in Vietnam.
The Union of Friendship Organizations of Dong Thap province on Aug. 11 has visited and encouraged 54 Lao and Cambodian students studying at universities and colleges in the province.
They are unable to return to their home countries due to the complicated developments of the pandemic, meaning they are forced to remain in the dormitories during the summer break.
Attending the visit were representatives of leaders of the foreign affairs department, the provincial youth union as well as representatives of local universities and colleges.
The delegation visited, shared difficulties, encouraged the students to overcome difficulties, study hard, strictly follow the regulations on social distancing, contributing together with the province to soon repel the pandemic.
On this occasion, the delegation also gave each student a gift package including noodles, eggs, milk, rice and wished them good results in their studies. Total value of gifts is over VND 15 million.
This is one of the meaningful activities to promote the spirit of companionship and concern of Dong Thap Union of Friendship Organizations to international students studying in the province. The above activity contributes to the well implementation of the economic, cultural and social development cooperation program between Dong Thap province and other provinces of Cambodia and Laos.

Meanwhile, 23 Lao students at the Da Lat University in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong’s Da Lat city on Aug. 9 have got their first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Besides, each Lao student also received VND 2 million in aid from the provincial chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
The administrators of the university and Lam Dong authorities have so far worked to assist the group of students which are from Laos’ Champasak and Bolykhamsay provincies.
Mai Minh Nhat, vice rector of the university, said amid the pandemic, the university have arranged their accommodations at a separated building in its dormitory to ensure safe distance and reduce the risk of transmission.
Earlier, the university provided each Lao student with VND 1.5 million. The Lam Dong People’s Committee, meanwhile, granted the group VND 8 million each, with graduates receiving an addition of VND 5 million each.
The Provincial People's Committee also sent document to the Department of Health, the Department of Finance and the provincial Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association to support Lao students studying at Da Lat University.
In the coming time, Lam Dong will arrange a vehicle to carry two Lao graduates to Champasak.
They also will arrange an ambulance and twp drivers to run continuously overnight and carry out necessary administrative procedures to bring these two students to La Lay border gate in Quang Tri province to carry out procedures to return home. The Department of Health reported to the Provincial People's Committee the time and implementation plan to notify the Champasak provincial authorities.
