Nutrition program launched to support pediatric patients with cancer

The program will provide 2,700 cans of nutrient milk along with weekly Funny Class for pediatric cancer patients and monthly health education sessions for parents and caregivers at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH) to improve the nutritional care for these patients.

The VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) in collaboration with Nutricare., JSC and Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH) announced on April 28 the launch of the Nutrition Program “Millions of Glasses of Milk for Community” in VNCH from April to December 2021.

The program will provide free 2,700 cans of nutrient milk Leanmax Hope 400grams along with weekly Funny Class for pediatric cancer patients and monthly health education sessions for parents and caregivers at VNCH to improve the nutritional care for these patients in the hospital.

The total program expenses valued more than VND 1 billion (USD 43.380) is sponsored by Nutricare.

Understanding that nutrition is an important part of the health of all children, especially for children getting cancer treatment, Nutricare and VinaCapital Foundation implement the Nutrition Program “Millions of Glasses of Milk for Community” to improve cancer child patients’ nutritional status and increase chances of patient recovery after treatment in VNCH.

The program expects to enhance the nutritional care for pediatric cancer patients and raise awareness about the role of nutrient milk for pediatric patients during their treatment and their recovery by providing free milk for pediatric cancer patients at VNCH from April to December 2021, with the total estimated number is 2,700 cans; organizing Funny Class every two weeks for pediatric cancer patients with fun-for-children topics about milk, foods and nutrition.

Health education sessions on nutrient milk will be organized for parents and caregivers once a month when the hospital gives free milk to patients. Being led by VNCH’s nutritionists and Nutricare’s advisors, these education sessions will provide guidelines for using special milk Leanmax Hope as well as knowledge about nutrition for children to raise awareness about the importance of nutrient milk for children with cancer.

The program also will survey to evaluate the impacts of supplying nutrient milk to the physical condition of pediatric cancer patients before and after three to six months of receiving milk at VNCH.

The “Millions of Glasses of Milk for Community” program strives to be an essential contribution to ensuring nutritional quality and supporting post-treatment recovery for cancer children who are receiving treatment in Oncology Department at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital.

General Director of Nutricare Nguyen Duc Minh shared, “Nutrition program for children with cancer is implemented by Nutricare and VCF, in collaboration with the National Children’s Hospital, to provide knowledge, medical nutrition products to support treatment and improve the quality of life. for cancer patients. This is a safe, effective product that has been clinically proven at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. For many years, the program 'Millions of glasses of milk for community' has contributed to nutritional support for disadvantaged people, children in mountainous areas and also patients with kidney issues, thyroid, diabetes… Nutricare hopes to accompany VCF and health organizations more in nutritional care activities for the community in the upcoming time.”

Vietnam was named as one of the nations with the highest rate of cancer fatalities and new cancer cases in the world, The World Health Organization (WHO) listed.

According to statistics compiled by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), last year saw Vietnam climb seven places to rank 92th out of 185 surveyed countries in terms of cancer rates.

This comes following a period of the country’s number of cancer patients being on the rise, with the figure reaching 165,000 cases in 2018 compared to just 68,000 back in 2000, and 126,000 in 2010.

Most notably, the five most common kinds of cancer typically occur in the lung, liver, stomach, rectum, and breast.
