The conference aims to strengthen the exchange of information, gather ideas, recommendations, and promote the roles of members of the IX Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in community solidarity and contribute to nation building.

The conference was chaired by Do Van Chien, secretary of the Party Central Committee, president of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Pham Quang Hieu, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese; Phung Khanh Tai, vice president of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Practical activities towards the homeland

Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Phung Khanh Tai said that with the difficulties of our overseas Vietnamese due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Committee has coordinated with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to carry out many practical activities to mobilize, gather and unite overseas Vietnamese; jointly protect the lawful and legitimate rights, interests of the overseas Vietnamese community.

According to Phung Khanh Tai, from the launch until August 2021, overseas Vietnamese organizations and individuals have supported in money and in kind for the Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control in the country, worth nearly 60 billion dong (US$2,641,446).

Overseas Vietnamese have sent over VND30 billion (US$1,320,723) through the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels, the Red Cross Society and directly to people in difficulty due to storms in the Central region.

Enthusiastic contributions to the fight against Covid-19

At the conference, members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term IX, and representatives of a number of associations and delegations gave information on outstanding results in the work of solidarity, gathering and mobilizing the Vietnamese community recently.

In Hungary, Phan Bich Thien, president of the Vietnam Women's Union in Hungary, said that the online conference is a very good opportunity for expatriates to meet and discuss in the context of the complicated pandemic situation in many countries.

According to Thien, the association has called for donations to support the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces, so far, it has received more than 20,000 euros (US$23,590). Thien hopes that the Government will soon have appropriate regulations so that overseas Vietnamese who have been fully vaccinated with vaccines and have a "vaccine passport" can return to their homeland in the near future.

The president of the Vietnam Business Association in Australia, Tran Ba Phuc, also helped with Vietnam's fight against the Delta variant. Despite being far away from home, the Vietnamese community in Australia is very concerned about the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in their homeland.

Tran Ba ​​Phuc said the association is making efforts to lobby the Australian Government to provide vaccine aid to Vietnam and support Vietnam to prioritize buying vaccines made in Australia. With its responsibility, the association will be a bridge to support businesses, so that they can soon access and negotiate to buy vaccines to support the prevention of the pandemic in the country.

In HCMC, Tran Hai Linh, president of Vietnam-Korea Businessmen and Investment Association suggested that in provinces and cities that are implementing social distancing, if wanting people to strictly abide by social distancing "stay wherever you are," then the issue of social security needs to be ensured.

Specifically, people need to be supported with food, necessities, and medicine bags to provide F0 cases with difficult circumstances. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen measures to support innkeepers such as exemption and reduction of electricity and water bills, easing bank debts, so that they have a basis to support difficult tenants.

According to Tran Hai Linh, localities need to ensure that there are always quick test kits and biological products to ensure fast and effective testing. In addition, provinces and cities need to apply tools to digitize, speed up the display and store data on the system, thereby helping health departments to coordinate human resources. Moreover, the Steering Committee for Pandemic Prevention and Control will be able to monitor and observe anytime, anywhere to make quick decisions and the most appropriate method for each circumstance.
