Overseas Vietnamese in UK presents over 43,000 USD to aid COVID-19 fight

At a ceremony to hand over the relief held at the Embassy of Vietnam in the UK, Nam, who is the President of the Vietnamese Business Association in the UK, said he said the donation showed his responsibility for his home country at this time of hardship.

For his part, Ambassador to the UK Tran Ngoc An briefed his guest on Vietnam’s endeavours in COVID-19 prevention that call for synchronous efforts of people from all walks of life.

He expressed his gratitude for Nam's contribution, saying such support will play a crucial part in Vietnam’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

As of the end of March 27, Vietnam had reported 163 COVID-19 cases. Three patients, two British citizens (patients 22 and 23) and a Vietnamese woman (patient 35), were discharged from hospital. They will undergo further quarantine for the next 14 days.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has ordered a virtual lockdown of the world's fifth largest economy to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus banning Britons from leaving their homes for all non-essential reasons.

So far, 578 people have died in the United Kingdom after testing positive for coronavirus and the number of confirmed cases has risen to 11,658. The UK toll is the seventh worst in the world, after Italy, Spain, China, Iran, France and the United States, according to a Reuters tally.
