This is the cooperation project between PeaceTrees Vietnam and our long time partner, the Women’s Union of Quang Tri province. This is also the 18th kindergarten funded by PeaceTrees Vietnam with the support and caring of PeaceTrees’s friends.

According to PeaceTrees, Cua village has 67 kindergarten-age children. Only 35 of these children have attended kindergarten in the village’s current degraded kindergarten classroom that is no longer safe or adequate for use. 32 children have not received any kindergarten education.

By constructing a new two-room school, all of the village’s children will be able to attend class regularly and benefit from early childhood education. The children will be divided by age between the two classrooms, with one classroom for 3-4-year-olds and the other for 5-year-olds. This will help teachers to facilitate age-appropriate activities and learning.

The two-room Cua Kindergarten was jointly funded by Jeff Shumway and Seattle Area Rotary Clubs. It’s scheduled to open this Fall for the 2020-2021 school year.

In 1995, PeaceTrees Vietnam was the first international non-governmental organization coming to the province to help address post-war consequences through demining and mine risk education, victim assistance, community building projects and citizen diplomacy in partnership with the people of Quang Tri province.

This January, PeaceTrees Vietnam marked 25 years of cooperation with the US Embassy and Quang Tri to mitigate unexploded ordnance (UXO) leftover from the war.

In 2019, PeaceTrees’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams cleared 5,603 explosive remnants of War (ERW) across 3,294,462 sq meters of land. Returning this land to safety directly benefits 44,265 people. In addition, the teams held 1,847 Mine Risk Education (MRE) sessions that provided life-saving tips to 16,231 people.

In addition, the demining team conducts UXO clearance for the site chosen for the kindergarten before construction is started./.
