The photo capturing a local fisherman catching anchovies in Phu Yen province by lensmen Thien Nguyen won second prize in the category of Journeys & Adventures. Anchovy is the main ingredient to produce the quintessential Vietnamese condiment- fish sauce.

The photo “Harvesting water lily flowers” by photographer Pham Huy Trung won the consolation prize in the category of Journeys & Adventures. August – November annually is the time when farmers in Mekong River Delta start to harvest water lily flowers which can be processed into many dishes.

The photo capturing the beauty of a water coconut forest in the central province of Quang Ngai by photographer Khanh Phan also won the consolation prize in the category of Journeys & Adventures.
The water coconut forest is a famous ecotourism destination in Quang Ngai and where the locals catch seafood.

The photo capturing a father and son catching fish in the cave in Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province by Thailand photographer Natnattcha Chaturapitamorn also won prize and will be showcased in Siena.

The photo of two women in non la (conical hat) drying incense sticks in Quang Phu Cau village, Ung Hoa district, Hanoi by Bangladeshi photographer Azim Khan Ronnie is honored as remarkable artwork in the Fascinating Faces And Characters category. The traditional craft of making incense has existed for more than 100 years. Incense plays an important role in the spiritual life of Vietnamese people.

The first prize of the Journeys & Adventures Category belonged to the photo by photographer Amirmahdi Najafloo Shahpar depicting Muslim women praying in Hamedan, Iran for Eid al-Fitr. The last day of Ramadan is celebrated by Muslims all over the world with special prayers and gatherings.

“Home alone” photo by Attila Balogh won first place In Architecture & Urban Spaces category. Only a single apartment's windows are lit in Tsing Yi district, a densely populated area of Hong Kong, right before sunset.

“Spanish Moss” photo by Mauro Battistelli came into second place in the Beauty of Nature category. Early in the morning on a November day, inside the swamp, looking for the magnificent beauty of the Spanish moss. The late autumn colors made it appear almost monochromatic and the Bald Cypress stood in the still water creating an incredible reflection in the misty atmosphere.

“La Dama Blanca” won second place in the Beauty of Nature category. There are still places in the world where fortunately nature reigns. Among them are the wild cliffs of Portugal where it is still possible to observe the nesting of storks.
This year’s contest received nearly 48.000 images from amateur and professional photographers from 156 countries and territories worldwide in different categories such as Journeys & Adventures, Beauty of Nature, Animals, Architecture & Urban Spaces, along with Street Photography. The winners received the Pangea Prize Crystal statuette at the recent awards ceremony. The winning images will be showcased in Siena City, Italy at the month-long "Imagine all the People Sharing all the World" exhibition. |
