The fifth congress is held via both in-person and online formats.

The fifth congress of the Union of Friendship Organizations of Phu Yen Province for the 2020-2025 term was held on Dec. 11. Virtually attending the congress from Hanoi, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga emphasized that the Phu Yen Friendship Union should continue to innovate and improve the effectiveness of people-to-people diplomacy, following the motto "Active, flexible, creative and effective" and focuses on four key contents.

Firstly, to develop programs and work plans for the term, proactively implementing and renovating the content and form of people-to-people diplomacy activities to improve practical effectiveness, to strengthen relations with neighboring countries and in the ASEAN region, with other strategic partner countries, deepening the traditional friendship and partnership, diversifying types of activities, linking political advocacy with the promotion of economic, investment, trade, scientific cooperation technical training, education and training, tourism. Thereby promoting the image of a beautiful people's land of Phu Yen, rich in potential to attract cooperation and investment, and contribute to the realization of economic development goals.

Second, to develop the provincial programs on foreign non-governmental aid promotion closely following the national program for the period of 2019 - 2025, approved by the Prime Minister, so that foreign non-governmental work meets the objectives and interests of building Vietnam better.

Third, to strengthen the work of information and communication abroad, focus on applying information technology, developing an English-Vietnamese website to provide information about Phu Yen, development achievements of the locality and Vietnam in general, the foreign policy of Party and State, especially achievements in ensuring human rights, sovereignty over sea and islands, timely and effective fight against false claims.

Fourth, well implement Conclusion 12-KL/TW of the Politburo on overseas Vietnamese work in the new situation. The overseas Vietnamese community is an integral part and an important resource of the Vietnamese community; strengthen connection and promote the role of Phu Yen people living abroad to contribute to the construction of the homeland.

The congress elected the Executive Committee of the Phu Yen Friendship Union for the 2020-2025 term, including 29 members. Pham Thanh Chung continued to be elected to hold the position of president in the new term

Speaking at the congress, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the Phu Yen Friendship Union and its member associations in the past term, especially foreign non-governmental aid mobilization.

In the coming time, the Phu Yen Friendship Union needs to actively develop a plan to implement the Program of Action, advise provincial leaders on the implementation of people-to-people diplomacy on the basis of a thorough understanding of the tasks of foreign affairs identified in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and VUFO's Charter, Nga emphasized.

On this occasion, the VUFO Presidium presented the Emulation Flag and certificate of merit to the Phu Yen Friendship Union; certificates of merit for three individuals and the "For peace and friendship among nations" medals for four individuals for making many positive contributions to people-to-people diplomatic activities in the period 2015-2020.

VUFO President Nga believes that, under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the support and coordination of departments, agencies and mass organizations, the Phu Yen Friendship Union will well complete the tasks set out and achieve many new achievements in the province's people-to-people diplomacy.

Nga also affirmed that VUFO and its member organizations at the central level will do their best to continue to support and coordinate with the union to make its activities more and more effective, a worthy part in the socio-economic development and foreign affairs of Phu Yen province and building a growing friendship union system.
